Here's a question I have been trying to find the answer to by looking at tons of old pics, but have been unable to come up with anything definitive, if such is possible.
In the Eastern towns and cities, pics of gentlemen on the streets show almost everybody wearing bowlers, with a few...
Jack, I got a couple pairs of just what you describe last summer from Carhartt. I use to have a pair of shorts that were surplus from the French Foreign Legion, those were mighty cool, but I wore them out. The Carhartts are surprisingly similar.
Nice to see the pipe smoker's posts. We seem to be heavily outnumbered by the cigar guys. I wonder how many folks, passing on the street, would know what Syrian Latakia is?lol
The aroma and taste of latakia in a nice virginia-based blend transports me into a rarified realm of campfires...
I am so not an expert, but I've just been through all of the nearly 600 pages of photos on Shorpy with a keen eye, and any jeans pictured there from the 19th century all the way up to the '50,s are loose and fairly baggy. In fact, the loose fit five star Wranglers I have are pretty dang close to...
Great stuff, sure would like to see more of this kind of thing on the lounge, although it is, strictly speaking, outside the purview of the GE, I guess. Been through almost all of the 500 plus pages of Shorpy.com, a great resource for those of us who want to SEE what it was really like back in...

Man, that is a very cool little piece. I've seen tons of match safes, but never one of those. The combination of motifs is excellent, reflects two of my principal interests. What material is it made from?
:D Back in the mid-70's I met Bill Monroe and got to play with Lester Flatt's backup band at the same festival. Favourite band - Mike Duffy and the Country Gentlemen.
Just a note of caution here, from my own experience. Sometimes when turning out the sweatband on older hats, the leather will tear in the process. Prudence and care are required. Luck to ya.
Mine's a Carhartt, brown not blue, been wearing it for 10 years, my favourite coat. Carhartt make lots of traditional stuff and you don't have to ransom your first-born son to buy one.
