    Do You Get Easily Obsessed?

Well said! I have waxing and waning obsessions. Usually under one of the categories of: history, movies, travel.

    G.I.'s and beer

My grandpa was stationed in the Philippines in the 1950s, and San Miguel was *the* beer there. I have a great cartoon (unfortunately not scanned) that traces the de-evolution of a sailor as he becomes addicted to San Miguel.

    Conversation: A Lost Art

I think that people are as interested as ever in growing intellectually. People are usually naturally curious about all sorts of topics. I think it's often a passive interest though. A sort of you serve the information to me (via TV, internet, movies, etc.) rather than that person develop the...

    Movie Release Dates

Often movies have different release dates in different countries. What I'm curious about is the delay of movie releases between Britain and the U.S. in the 1930s and 1940s. What sort of things governed the date a movie would be shown? Why time releases separately? I'm also curious about what...

    Your favorite silent movies.

I'm going to watch Battleship Potemkin for a class I'm taking - I can't wait to see it! We're going to watch one called The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr. West in the Land of the Bolsheviks too, which sounds like a good one. Since the last time I posted I've seen a few silents and I'd add...

    Favorite comfort food . . .

Sometimes it's hard to get the peanut butter to stick to the apples, but they are so tasty! I think apple-anything is pretty comforting - apple pie, caramel apples with nuts, applesauce, apple juice, cider (especially of the hot spiced variety), apple slices (with or without peanut butter!)...

    Best TV Themes (music)

Gilligan's Island, Green Acres, and Beverly Hillbillies are fun.

    Men who can cook.

I can't (or rather don't) cook, and don't claim to be cute, empowered, or hungry, but in debt to prepackaged foods, boiling water, and the microwave. Special shout out to Birdseye too.

Not my favorite of internet time wasters, but I do have one: here.

    What Magazines Do You Read?

Oh, one more: I forgot that I'm subscribed to The Historian. It's more journal than magazine but I figure I'd mention it anyway. (What does define "magazine"?)

    Men who can cook.

If a guy can cook, that's great, but it doesn't set my heart a flutter. If cooking is a guy's passion and you can see that while he's at work that's a different story though. It's kind of what Lady Day said. I love to see the passion people have for their hobbies/work, whether it's putting...

    Listening to music

I use to never just sit and listen to music because I felt like I was wasting time. Music has always been a seasoning to whatever else I'm doing. I mostly listen to music when I'm writing (academic or for fun), when I'm in the car, or when I'm exercising or feel like dancing around. Sometimes...

    What Magazines Do You Read?

I use to buy magazines and subscribe to them more frequently, but I've been trying to save money lately so I've cut down. Occasionally though I do buy: Premiere Empire And less frequently: Smithsonian Conde Nast Traveler And I bum second hand copies from friends and relatives of magazines...

    Latvian Hotel-soviet jail

Minus the brutal middle of the night routine, but I stayed at a former jail hotel last month. Hotel Lowengraben in Lucerne, Switzerland. It had been used as a jail from the 1860s until 1998. Probably one of the most bare minimum hotels - no tables, no closets, no drawers, no lamps. The...

    I got a new job!

I'll add my congrats to the rest! What an exciting opportunity, it is something you completely deserve. It's nice to hear about someone getting a job that fits them so well.

    Glamour As Armour?

Maybe not necessarily as armor, but as a mood booster. Sometimes the blues or the mean reds strike. I usually feel cheerier once I've made an effort to dress nicer. Accessories are my favorite - lipstick, highheels, jewelry. The whole girls being envious/catty to other girls thing always...

Top Ten Actors of All Time?

Jimmy Stewart Humphrey Bogart Cary Grant Paul Newman Christian Bale Michael Caine Tom Hanks Ray Milland Joel McCrea Leonardo Dicaprio I also considered Robert Montgomery and Dick Powell since I love their early 1930s charismatic roles. But I feel like I need to see more of their...

    Handsome Fellas!

When I tried to go there this popped up: "We at Showtime Online express our apologies; however, these pages are intended for access only from within the United States." How sad.

    Joel McCrea "Foreign Correspondent"

Joel McCrea is one of my favorites too. Foreign Correspondent isn't my favorite of his, but it's a very well done movie. I don't know if I've ever seen a Hitchcock movie I didn't like.
