Vintage Lifestyle VS Re-Enacting VS Cosplay

Most of the time (when not in work) I am between 10 - 80% vintage or vintage inspired. That is a reflection of my personality and personal tastes, but I also go to WW2 events and when I'm doing that I consider myself to be a reenactor and aim to be as authentic as I can. Although I have...

    If you ever visit England....

There's a great book called 'Bollock to Alton Towers' by I forget who, which lists a lot of the 'odd' and ususual places to visit in these Great British Isles. A great read and very illuminating.

BBC News - Boutique business: can a men's clothes shop thrive?

How funny! I worked in Chiltern St for a while in a ladies shoe shop (I trained as a shoemaker originally) In the 90's. It was a very quiet and quite odd little streeet then. The shop (I think it's still there) sold classic ladies shoes in very large and narrow sizes - from a UK 9AAA to a 12...

    Dried up patent leather

Have you tried Vaseline? Rubbed in really well and left to soak in for a bit, then buffed. I know they also used to use milk to clean patent leather. Lovely boots!

Make your own vintage inspired hats

I did get some spray fabric stiffner, the stuff you use for blinds. The hat certainly holds its shape better now although I did need to tweak it a bit as it was drying. I will eventually get round to posting a pic! Tip: if you are spraying with this stuff DON'T do what I did, which is spray...

The Kings Speech - a Critique

Did anyone in the UK watch 'The Real Kings Speech' doc on Channel 4 last night. Quite interesting, especially the insights form Logues' other patients. Fascinating to see that Oswald Mosely's son had a stammer too. A bullying (male) parent seems to be the common denominator there. What struck...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

Ha! That has just reminded me of when I was a teenager (way) back in the 80's. I often dressed fairly vintage then too, and staying at my best friends aunties in the summer hols I went out in a black and while 50's dress with a very large black straw hat, bag and gloves, with black kitten heeled...

    Unpopular movie opinions...

The thing that always irks me about Full Metal Jacket is the fact that it was filmed on the Isle Of Dogs. Vietnam has never looked so cold!

    High Waisted Pants & Jeans!

Lauren, I have just been browsing your store and I LOVE the 30's sports togs pattern! The question I have is how does the US sizing work compared to UK, I am a size 12-14 in the UK, would this be a US 8-10? And if I take into account the vintage sizing, would I be better making the 14?
