A 1912 Suit/Tie/Boater you could wear 100 years later and look at home.

Interesting observation in that respect. Could probably write a book on the subject. A lot things can probably be factored into that, the two biggest being economics and the influence of the church back than. Heterosex wasn't even discussed amongst "polite" company, homosexuality not even on...

    Roaring 20's party

I originally found FL while researching for a Roaring 20s party. Puuhhleess -no zoot suits! Here's the thread and a few other links: Roaring 20s Flapper Fashion History 1920s women's hair styles Hosting a Roaring 20s theme party. The Great Gatsby website 1920s Radio Network...

A 1912 Suit/Tie/Boater you could wear 100 years later and look at home.

I hadn't noticed. Looking at the picture more closely, it appears his arm is resting on the back of the chair. The second picture supports that. It was the attire and hairstyles I was trying to draw attention to, not any perceived "gay" posturing.

Along the same thought lines and the same source, (Sorpy) I like the clean-cut, wholesome look of these gentlemen. Particularly the guy on the far right. The haircut, the suit, but maybe not the shoes. The pic says their Army students, but those aren't uniforms. Although the pic is b&w, I'm...

A redistribution of your vintage resources.

What little I have that's of any value will stay in the family. I'll make sure they know what's considered to be vintage artifacts and what's not. I consider each item I have that is antique or vintage as another step toward preserving what's left of the Golden Era.

    Any idea about this blazer?

Yeah, too bad it was too small for me, even if I lost weight. I must be learning, somewhere in the back of my head I was thinking that flecked look was 50s-ish. Any locals who want it, it was at the St. Vincent de Paul's store near Aurora and 130th.

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

Does Mom's garage count? She's been slowly giving away items she has packed. When I was down there last, I was helping her move some stuff and I found these. I remember we gave them to her as a present in the late 60s.

    Any idea about this blazer?

Yes, machine washable, although the instructions said could be dry cleaned also. Thanks for the tip about fabric care tags. 70s always brings to mind stuff like this:

    Need Dean Martin recommendation!

When ever I buy CD's of any musician, I just get "Greatest Hits" or "Best of".

    Any idea about this blazer?

I saw this in a thrift store today. I'm not as astute as some of you folks on spotting vintage clothing, but it looked kinda vintage to me, but I could be wrong. It was too small for me so I didn't buy it. There was no label other than the laundering instructions. My apologies for the...

Have You Ever Met A Movie/TV Star or Celebrity?

When I used to work for a limo company in Seattle I drove Naomi Campbell out to Bellevue once. Wasn't impressed with her, thought she was a cheeky little sh... well, she wasn't very nice. Met Linda Evans at the airport once, but another driver had the privilege of driving her. One other time...

    Happy New Year 1931 again!

This one has a picture that shows a view of a bridge called "The Point" in Pittsburgh as it was in 1931, but the calender is 2009 The Point in 1931 calendar print

    Happy New Year 1931 again!

Let me know if you find something, I'll do likewise. As I said in my other post, I couldn't find much. A friend suggested starting a biz by designing my own using public domain pictures and having calendars printed up. Not a bad idea. I liked my 2008 calendar of Historical Seattle that was...

I've never watched BOB. If I skipped ahead to episode 7, will I still be able to understand the story line?

    Happy New Year 1931 again!

But try to find a calendar for either one! Funny as it is, I've been googling it all over the place and could only find a couple 1931 calendars. One is the image I posted, but it's sold, for something like $245! The other is a repro on eBay. Repro is ok, cuz I need to write things on my...

    Removing Blood Stains?

Yeah, my thoughts too! You may be able to clean the blood stain to the naked eye, but the cops have that stuff called Luminol! :kick:

    Happy New Year 1931 again!

    The days in the 2009 calendar will be the same as 1903, 1914, 1925, 1931, 1942, 1953, 1959, 1970, 1981, 1987, 1998. http://www.vpcalendar.net/3_Columns/Calendar_4.html But 2008 wasn't 1930, because of leap years. It was 1924. Golden Era years in 2010 will be 1926, 1937, and 1943. (Are the...

Something I noticed in people's pictures

No dear, not trying to achieve a hard-boiled "look". I'm just one of those people who have trouble forcing a smile. I have to be genuinely tickled about something to put on a smile, or it just looks like I'm grimacing. But just for you doll, I'll get out my camera, put on a hat, and...

    Mexican Hat Dance

So where are the pictures of you doing a Mexican Hat Dance? Is that like doing Karaoke in that you have to drink a lot of alcohol first? We should invent a "Fedora Lounge Hat Dance", that sounds like fun! :cheers1:
