how many use wood stoves for heat?

My brother had a house across the road from us back in the 80's in which he had installed a wood burner in the basement level. He gathered wood from job sights as he worked for the city surveying new subdivisions. His gas bill would be something like 6 dollars a month or less, low enough to...

An extraordinarily well-preserved dress, WWI era. Wow.

That is truly a work of art and a labor of love. Looks like it came right from The Titanic. Must have been made for a fairly wealthy client.

    Unappreciated masterpieces?

Just watched "Girl, Interrupted" for the first time. Really a good movie, and might just be one of these under-appreciated masterpieces.

Has anyone owned a US Authentic(flightjacket.com) Sportster jacket?

The A2s from U.S. Authentic do tend to run a bit long and somewhat bulky. Maybe due to the heavy leathers used as well as the cut. Shaul will work with you though to make a good fit for your custom jacket. They have many years of experience and make quality jackets.

    Have you found Hidden Treasure?

I recently purchased a 150 year old painting that I'm fairly certain is a Eugene Isabey. A common occurrence with oils painted on canvas supports, is that the canvas deteriorates after roughly 50 years or so, and it then needs to be relined. This was done to my painting about 100 years ago using...

    Show us your Guns!

Me. :eusa_doh: And then the blasted thing was mighty hard to remove too. A bit of filing and a dremel tool can go a long way towards fixing that issue though. It's been said that the Russians intended that the bayonet stay on most of the time. I tend to think that might have been true.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Taxi Driver. Still a good movie after all these years. That's saying a lot as I don't care for most 70s movies as a rule. The 70s being such a lousy decade on all fronts.

Does anyone here collect vintage toys?

I have a sort of unofficial collection of games from the 1950's. It started with the Groucho Marx "You Bet Your Life" home version, and has been growing a bit from there. I have an original "Name That Tune" from the 50s in unused condition, as well as Jan Murray's "Charge Account", "Break the...

    Veg v. Chrome Tanning

This is indeed an interesting and informative thread. :eusa_clap However, the more I learn, the more confused I get here, as far as historical accuracy of leather garments is concerned anyway. When did the chrome tanning method take precedence over the older vegetable tanning process? Between...

    Is Swearing a Vice?

This reminds me of that George Carlin bit about the 7 words that can't be used on television.:D "They're just words,...." Judicious usage of certain words is probably inevitable for most people these days, for emphasis in certain situations. However, using such language continually in every...

    Alec Baldwin: Good-bye, Public Life

This is why I never did much of anything on "Facebook", or any of the so-called "social media". Why on earth would anyone want to post hundreds of pictures of themselves, their families and friends online for ALL to see?? It's like a sort of mass surveillance tool that people willingly play...

Anyone have experience with US Authentic?

:arated:Yup. Nice jackets, and the length works for me. Maybe the next size down would be a better fit for some folks? Shaul will also do exchanges or custom alterations I believe.
