I wash with conditioner only every four to seven days currently. I love that I can be out of town over a long weekend and not even take any products except a travel size can of hair spray.
I find that the original techniques work quite well for me. Wash at night, do a wet pincurl set with...
I wear leather gloves every day and have a huge collection so I might be able to help. Quality gloves usually come in half sizes, and, if anything, half a size more or less might work. Going down a full size from your true size will most probably be too small.
New leather gloves should fit very...
Today's hair
I recently had about 4" cut off and the bottom 2" layered. Uncurled it's now just below the shoulders in the back and chin length in front. The layers make my curls sit so much better but I already miss the length ... Funny enough I quite like the look of the shorter cut, but I...
My style is classic/40s inspired. I own a few repros, the rest is regular modern clothes in classic styles that just haven't changed all that much. I combine that with 40s hair and makeup and vintage acessories (furs, pearls etc.).
I guess since I kinda grew into that over the years it feels...
Not very vintage, but my favourite lipstick is actually Maybelline Superstay 24 Color. It's the only brand I've been wearing for years, daily, except for photo shoots. I just love that you don't have to worry about stains or smears. I usually do a quick touchup after oily meals and...
A large part of the book consists of excerpts from "Creative Hairshaping and Hairstyling You Can Do" by Ivan Anderson. The directions are so taken out of context that they're really hard to follow. There are reprints of the original availabe that I'd consider much better value, I also recently...
I just read two 1940s hairdressers' manuals cover to cover and wanted to share my insights about authentic haircuts back then. The books were Ivan Anderson's "Creative Hairshaping and Hairstyling You Can Do" (1947) and "Hairstyle Design" (aka "1940s Hair Design") by Louis Newberry (1946). Both...
Stephanie, I love that hair style, and your glasses are divine.
Alice, you look like 40s screen siren, wow! You could also easily pull off a bigger flower or a cluster of the small ones, that one's almost too subtle for your lush mane.
For heavy workout I put my hair into dry pincurls and cover them with a thin scarf. If I use bobby pins instead of pincurls clips that even fits under a riding helmet. After workout I change the scarf for a fresh one, with the front hair peeking out and rolled all pretty. When any dampness from...
Thank you! I actually do pin curls every night - wet sets once or twice a week after a wash, and dry re-sets in between. I tried different curling techniques and pin culrs are just the most comfortable to sleep on. They take practice to do quickly but I find that they're very much worth the...
Thanks so much, agirlinwinter! The grass is always greener somewhere else I guess. I have an appointment at a rockabilly/vintage salon in two days for a trim and at least a few layers in the ends ... I like my waves but the curls on the ends never fall quite right. I hope they know what they're...
It does! That's how I usually do it (pretty much a blunt bowl cut with the bang area and nape hair being around the same length). Looks great on me unstyled / air dried, and the front is also lovely with pincurls, but the back just hangs there. Last night I trimmed some very conservative layers...
Actually a few days ago
The set: pincurls rolled dry around one finger from a set that had almost completely fallen due to humidity. Misted with water after setting to reactivate the setting lotion, slept on it.
Top: two rows of two standing pincurls, facing away from the part
Sides: two rows...
I have serious hair cut envy - but I'm scared. And I need help, please!
I have fine, thin hair. Recently I cut it (myelf) from a long, blunt cut into a U shape with the bangs and nape of the neck both around 12" - but still blunt, as in the hair from the crown being longer and meeting the...
Do you use rouge or blush? Cream Rouge
What brand/shade? Maybelline Dream Touch Blush 06 for daily use, sometimes MAC Cremeblend in Posey for photoshoots since the Maybelline has too much shimmer for the camera.
When do you apply it? After concealer, before powder (I don't use foundation)...
I prefer minimal long lasting makeup combined with permanent makeup all year round. I.e. concealer where necessary, powder, Maybelline Superstay 24hours lipstick, permanent eyeliner, tinted lashes. I can go for a swim that way, all I need to do when I come out of the pool is gently blot my face...
Oh my, I hadn't checked this thread for ages. Sorry for being terribly late. Yes, I henna my brows, too. I use the smooth pre-mixed Color Creme by Logona without any plant bits, but I guess fine body art henna would work just as well. Precisely brush henna on, cover with a piece of saran wrap...
I think you look awsome with both first and second day hair. :)
Have you tried pin curls instead of pillow rollers? With pin curls it's easier to tweak the size by rolling over one or two fingers, plus they're nicer to sleep on than thicker (or double) rollers.
I wouldn't know any natural temporary dyes, but the plain drugstore stuff is pretty good. As long as you don't have to mix anything before you apply (in which case it would be semi permanent or permanent dye, both of which damage the hair more or less) it won't cause any harm and will wash out...
