It's not even pulled straight back, she has quite a a bit of lift on top. I'd try it if I was you, the lift can make all the difference.
Check out this blog post, third page, "patterns for styling tops". They do a deep sideways wave with fluff (pic 18 and 19). You'd want a backwards wave...
What's your set like? That picture looks like she had standing pin curls done in the top/front area for extra height, probably three rows in alternating directions to get that wave on top of her head in front of the head band. I also recommend brushing your curls more for that 30s fluff/frizz in...
I love my henna, but it certainly is a commitment. Why don't you use temporary dye (the stuff that washes out with a couple of shampoos) for a few weeks first? That way you see if you start to miss your natural colour or not.
I recommend browsing through this thread. There are a lot of Sears catalogue scans that give you a great impression on how a complete outfit would have looked like.
I've seen her live and I agree. I saw The Opium Den in London a few years ago, and while her costume and props were spectacular and the choreography perfect the show didn't inspire me as much as lots of other New Burlesque performers I've seen. I love Dita's style but don't care all that much...
I've always been high maintenance I guess. As a kid I wanted to be a princess and loved wearing pretty dresses, as a teenager I took an hour to get ready in the bathroom every morning and drove my family nuts. Tried to dress down for a while for boyfriends who were ashamed of me standing out...
I have a couple of Bellanca 5004 for every day wear. It's a rather soft and comfortable pull on girdle that doesn't do much in regard to shaping. But since I basically only need something that keeps up my stockings without the bulge I get from garters it's perfect for me. And they're fairly...
Another trick ...
... that works nicely for me to get cone shaped rolls that lie flat in the back: Start rolling backwards first (axis of the roll horizontal, ear to ear), then change the angle only after you have almost reached the scalp (axis front to back, slighltly upwards or whatever tilt...
I do wear vintage fur ... I have a couple of beautiful fox and mink stoles and muffs from vintage and thrift shops, flea markets, or inherited. I wouldn't buy new fur, but I'm fine with recycling fur that is probably older than I am. I wear my favourite chocolate brown fox stole and matching...
I get Dita comments a lot which makes me happy cause she's so pretty. :) And I get asked if I'm an actress. Even though most contemporary actresses wear pretty much anything but classic hollywood style apparantly that image is firmly stuck in people's heads. I rarely get negative comments, just...
I wash with conditioner only (which is the best thing I ever did for my sensitive sclap) and go about four or five days in between.
I wash and and do a wet set with setting lotion in the evening. In the following nights I either wear a hair net, re-pin into a sloppy dry set (which I may or...
I actually use baby powder which is scented talcum. Or pure, unscented talcum sometimes. It's light enough for my very pale skin and mattifies like nothing else. It doesn't give much coverage though, so I use a little concealer if necessary. I never wear foundation ever.

Baby powder (perfumed white talcum) - about the only powder that's light enough for my skin - and dirt cheap, too! :)

Yay, I bought a bubble umbrella thanks to this thread. :) What a great invention!
My curls still fall out if the air is humid though, even if they aren't directly rained on. The only things that help are keeping them contained with a scarf, snood or hair net and taking them down again only...
Hi everyone,
after quietly soaking up wisdom here for the last two years it's about time to contribute a little as well ...
Air dried hair - fine, thin, bra strap length in the back, no layers, self trimmed into deep U shape according to Feye's method.
My basic, sloppy set. I...
I use Gard "Kurfestiger extra stark", diluted with water 1:1, in a spray bottle, on damp or dry hair. Love that stuff! I never tried Lottabody though so I can't compare.
(For reference: my hair is fine, thin, mostly straight, long, healthy, doesn't hold a curl well without product but this...
Greetings from Northern Germany
Hello everyone,
after lurking for over two years I thought it's about time to introduce myself and contribute a little, too. :)
I'm mainly into 40s inspired style with occasional excursions into the 50s. I don't strive for authenticity all that much -...
