Natural/Home remedies for super dry skin?

I use coconut oil as well. All over. It has really helped tame my peri-menopausal skin, which is just everywhere due to hormones.

    Toiletries of the Golden Era

There is a tiny shop I ran across in Charleston, SC. She has the most amazing selection of items I've ever seen! Her prices are so much more reasonable than Vermont Country Store. If you are searching for something, call her and see if she has it. Or, I can let you know when I'm running down...

'The Great Gatsby' Still Gets Flappers Wrong

I agree. I've seen quite a few women in costume as flappers this weekend with their breasts pushed as high and large as they could. It took all I could do not to go up to them and say "you know, flappers were known for being flat all over. Many bound their breasts".

Ladies, what are you doing this evening?

I'm coming in after a long absence. Been down with a virus and after spending a few days in my vintage beauty books, am kicking myself for not being here more often.

    Question for the bottle blondes!

I've always been blonde and find that when I'm not blonde my cuticle is so smooth, I don't hold curl as well. So, I just load up with the appropriate products and go. My husband has been known to call me helmet head on occasion due to the amount of hair spray I've used.

    Dress Pattern Excitement

My Grandmother has gone to visit my Mom for two weeks, so I'll broach the subject while she's there so they can "discuss". Mom knows I'll care for them and that's all Gran will want to know.

Who here makes their own beauty products??? :)

I found a book on my kindle that was free. I don't have it with me right now, but it probably had 30 or more recipes in it and was published in 1899. Excellent stuff I'll be sharing.

    Ladies with cigarettes

The photos in this thread are so very sexy. I'm an ex-smoker and craved a Dunhill for a few minutes, well, maybe more than a few minutes.

    Coffee, grind your own?

I buy the Cuisinart that has a thermal caraffe. The coffee stays fresh and the burner turns off so the coffee is kept hot, but not burned.

    Coffee, grind your own?

I use a burr grinder every morning. Some days are French press, but 9 times out of 10, I prepare drip coffee. I also have a percolator that comes in handy at times (such as when Grandma comes to visit). I'm also a bean snob and buy my beans from a local in Charlotte who's as picky as I am...

    Dress Pattern Excitement

I talked to my Mom today regarding vintage dresses and shopping. She told me to talk to my Grandmother as she has all of her old patterns AND my great-grandmothers. Some back to the 1920's! I'm chuffed!! Now, I'm going to set aside a weekend to travel back home so I can talk to my...

Stepping back in to the 40's in public I need your help please!

Number 3, Mary Janes and tan stockings. Love the combo! Both pairs of shoes are fabulous, but Mary Janes hold a special place in my heart. (Even though I wear peep toes more often!)

If you find vintage pieces you adore, you can also create a pattern to base your pieces off of. :)
