Carlin was a huge favorite of mine from my teens into my forties. However, at a certain point his style changed from the amused stoner to the angry old man. I'm sure the change was due more to growth and maturity, was organic and not calculated. Although I still found him funny, intelligent...
I just got back from "Open House Chicago", where businesses and landmarks throw open their doors and invite the public to tour their facilities. During our visit, I went to three architectural design firms. They were all quite impressive and gave extensive walk-throughs of their facilities...
As Bill Murray, shot by Columbus, lies dying
Tallahassee: You think you might pull through?
Bill Murray: No.
Columbus: If it means anything now, I am so sorry. It was just instinctive.
Bill Murray: It was my bad. I was never a very good practical joker.
Little Rock: So do you have any...
The word "square" is used in a lot of ways with different meanings:
We're square about that, right?
Hey, you're gettin' three squares a day. Don't complain.
Back to square one.
Don't be a square, man. Let's party!!
Sounds like a square deal.
My father liked to get out of the house and drive around town, checking out how the fishing or hunting in the area was going. While out, he would often pick up a foot-long coney dog at Dairy Queen for my mother (Freda), who really enjoyed them as an occassioinal treat (always with extra...
That wouldn't work for me; if I tried counting the hats that I own I'd surely think of one that I hadn't seen for a while, get up and look for it. If I tried counting hats that I don't own, I'd get up and start checking all of the usual sites to find one in my size.
I had a cross on a chain that I wore daily for years, but always under my shirt or t-shirt. A gift from my Mother. In the Air Fore I wore my tags all of the time. I got into the habit of wearing certain smaller keys on the same chain as I would tend to misplace them back in those days.
Mark Twain - Is to literature as The Beatles are to pop/rock music. They're so great it's almost unfair to compare them to others.
Truman Capote - Really worked on the craft of writing. Debatably created the "nonfiction novel" with In Cold Blood.
Elmore Leonard - Great ear for dialoge and...

I used the phrase "That sounds like a bunch of malarkey" the other day and got some puzzeled looks from the younger guys until I explained its meaning. Once they understood, they asked "Why didn't you just say 'A load of bullsh*t?'" Which, sadly, may expain why certain phrases or words have...
I own quite a few hats, but I wear my light grey/black band most often. But I do agree with Zombie_61; a light brown works better in a knockaround type of context.
The only time I hear that word anymore is when they play Jumpin' Gene Simmons' song Haunted House around Halloween.
" . . . ain't no haint gonna run me off." Probably my favorite Halloween tune.
Jeff,
Thanks for the information; I was wondering why I wasn't seeing many listings for the Roadster. Got mine yesterday - it is a fine hat. It is a bit stiff to start and I'm not enamored of the hatband either, but those are minor quibbles. I like it a lot.
