Great work--I adore that fabric, did you get it recently or is it vintage?

    Show us your vintage home!

I may have to have some wiring updating done, I pray not since I don't want to spend the money, but I checked the wiring cabinet and saw this label that I thought might interest folks. The building was built in 1905 so this label must date around then as well.

What was the last TV show you watched?

The Night James Brown Saved Boston--a documentary about a concert James Brown gave in the aftermath of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assasination. A bit haigiographic but well worth watching for the commentary and, most of all, the performance footage. I especially enjoyed the befuddlement of...

    Harbingers of Spring

Thanks for that picture Carter, it was just what I needed. More snow predicted for Boston tomorrow and Monday (sigh) but it was near 60 degrees on Friday so Spring can't be too far off.

    What Are You Reading

I still remember the ads for that book set! I'm still working my way through The Brontes (I'm up to page 247) which really is excellent. This quote stood out: "One of the reasons Patrick cited for needing a magiastrate in Haworth itself was to enforce the new factory regulations of 1833...

Norman Hartnell's spring Collection of 1938

Interesting film--many of the clothes look so matronly. I'd take "Cinema" though. I got lost in the other BFI offerings on You Tube--Two Cooks and a Cabbage by the Ministry of Information for the Ministry of Food for example, or Tea Making Tips. Christmas Under Fire (1941) did it's...

'The Best Years Of Our Lives'

In some long ago documentary they interviewed Billy Wilder about the scene when Harold gets home and Billy said (paraphrased) "I cried like a baby at that scene; and I laugh at Hamlet". Everyone's so good in that film but it's sometimes hard to watch.

    HAPPINESS

I didn't know whether I loved that movie or hated it (but the song stuck in my head). I will never see Welcome to the Dollhouse though. No need to go through those years again.

    So through with COOL!

A friend of mine in the 80's habitually used "jump back!" as an exclaimation of astonishment and/or approval. Don't know if that was a Valley Girl thing ("totally tubular!") or if she just made it up. I don't think I use a lot of modern slang, but it's not because I'm trying not to do so...
