    Your Most-Often-Consulted Reference Books?

Lately it's "Methods and Materials of Painting of the Great Schools and Masters". The definitive compendium of painting knowledge first published in 1847 and written by Sir Charles Lock Eastlake. A veritable cornucopia of old painting knowledge for artists.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

Is San Francisco still the hippie capital, or did they move elsewhere?

    The Monuments Men

I have yet to see the movie, but the story is quite fascinating to me given my lifelong passion for great art, both it's creation and it's preservation. Here are a few real photos that somewhat document events of the time. It's interesting to note that the Da Vinci masterpiece, "The Last...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Indeed. I think it qualifies for the "Unsung Masterpieces" thread really.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

There. Mr. Powers seconds the motion. Motion carried. ;) But my musical tastes have always leaned toward the more melodic, I have to admit that I like some of Robert Plant's solo stuff much better than any Led Zeppelin. Nobody did the Zeppelin thing like these guys though...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

"Dead Presidents" Excellent crime drama/Vietnam war movie.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

I have to admit that there were a few great bands that started out in the 70s and continued into the 80s and beyond. Roxy Music, King Crimson, Rush, and Emerson, Lake , and Palmer to name a few. But for every great band it seems there were 3 wretched acts such as Aerosmith, Kiss, Led Zeppelin...

    What Are You Reading

I'm reading "Methods and Materials of Painting of the Great Schools and Masters" by Sir Charles Lock Eastwood. First published in 1847 it is the compendium of Sir Charles' research at museums, monasteries, universities, and libraries where he amassed a treasure trove of information about the...

First TV show you ever watched (and can recall)

I think the first thing I watched was just any and all cartoons. Warner Bros. on Saturday morning, Hercules, The Pink Panther, Casper the Friendly Ghost,...and the list goes on. I think I might just be the only person NOT frightened by those flying monkeys. I was intrigued by them. :D

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

I'd have to respectfully disagree. I think the 80s produced some great music compared to the 60s and the incredibly dismal 70s. A lot of great music by bands with unique sounds that were all their own such as U2, Simple Minds, Talk Talk and many others. A few good movies also came out in the...

If You Could Meet The Original Owner

We had an old civil war sword that likely belonged to my Confederate great grandfather. My late uncle said that he wished he hadn't given the rest of the stuff they had to a scrap metal drive during world war two. I wish he hadn't done that too. :eusa_doh:

OK...so what is your oldest hat?

A question that has maybe not been asked here yet? What is your oldest hat? What is your oldest hat in your collection and what is it's history? Mine is just a common garden variety Stetson Open Road from the 1950s I think. But surely some of you have some downright historic toppers with a...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

I'd have to agree. Some of The Grateful Dead's music is lyrical and interesting, but I can't get downright fanatical about it like so many folks do. And Jimmy Buffet just grates on my nerves, I never could "get into" any of that parrot head nonsense.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

"The Breakfast Club" Haven't seen it in some time, probably 20 years since I'd viewed it. Much funnier than I remembered. This might be one of those unsung masterpiece movies as in that other thread. But it's hard to classify. :D

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Yeah, that was a good one. i'll have to watch it again soon myself.

How would you earn a living?

Easy. I'd be an artist/illustrator/portraitist/art conservator/gallery owner/art dealer. Maybe something like "Max", from the movie of the same name, but I would have nothing to do with that Hitler person!

    What would you miss most?

Folks are saying they would miss air conditioning, however it was invented by Willis Carrier in 1902, and available for residential use by the 1920s. So no need to worry there, except for auto air conditioning though which is another of the many modern automotive amenities that I would sorely...

    What would you miss most?

I'd miss the internet, but would adjust to just using the good old US mail service to shop for hard to find items, and my candle stick phone for communication. I'd miss modern cars with their many amenities, reliability, and safety features. I hate the thought of having to repair my car every...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

Agreed! I won't miss what I call "The Beavis and Butthead Look",...grown men wearing nothing but baggy sloppy looking shorts and equally over-sized T shirts year round, in an effort to hide their ample bellies and appear "hip" and youthful. Who are they trying to kid??
