You noticed that too, eh? I was always grumbling about that to friends, how they would just stick a blob of putty on the forehead or bridge of the nose, shape it to their whim, and presto, a new "alien"! Give me a break!
Before there was a shift key...
I guess there were dual keyboards on typewriters. This has been at an antique store near me for the last few times I've been there. I'm not much interested in them, but it did look very "vintagey", for lack of a better word.
Correction - Shift keys...
Speaking of fuzzy hats, I was watching an old Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action" (Season 2, episode 17) in which the Enterprise crew try to correct a "contamination" of a society that based itself on a book about 1920s Chicago gangsters. Anyway, I noticed that Kirk (Shatner) had a...
Funny I should come across this thread. I just had a vintage picture of my Uncle Charlie enlarged, circa early 30s:
Then there was Dad in the early or mid 60s:
Got this couch just today at a used furniture place. Ok, note to self and a promise to my best friend: no more big stuff in my apt! Boy, this was a real pita to get in because of the odd angles of the entry way to my apt. It would not fit through my front door, we had to take it out and go...
Just got this the other day at a "Second Hand" store. Or rather, their business name said "second hand", but it was really an antique store. Whatever. The pic is at an odd angle because the flash would reflect off the glass if it was photographed straight on:

Hated it!
Born in 53, and I hated the 70s. Disco, Tony Orlando and Dawn, Captain and Tennille (if I ever hear "Muskrat Love" again, it'll be way too soon!), tail end of Vietnam War (older brother was there, not me), rediculous and laughable fashions (although I wasn't as astute about them then...
Another vintage phone rescued.
My 2nd phone is another Craigslist find. A WE 500 model that was used and abused. So far the problems appear to be cosmetic. It was in a basement shop and appears to have a lot of grime, paint, and a few splats of plaster for good measure. Otherwise appears to...
Finally got the land-line in my new apt. The good and not-so-bad: I get a dial tone and can place and receive calls. The not-so-bad is there is static on the line, but it's not overwhelming, I can here the person on the other end fine and vice-versa. Also it doesn't ring, but I was told I...
Thanks. Haven't tried it yet. I have instructions on how to rig it to plug into a modern jack w/o compromising the original cord. First I have to do that, then I need a land line. Getting a land line Wednesday the 11th.
Can you decipher what the paragraph at the bottom of the schematics say? I'm trying to find a mfg. date, there's nothing on the inside of the phone that resembles a date.
Schematics closeup.
I was able to view you pictures ok. I haven't tried the clippers yet, I'll let you know next time I need to trim my nails. I was able to date them though. I found a 1906 Hardware catalog online that has an image of Gem Nail Clippers that look very similar: http://tinyurl.com/c9gz2r (Go to...
Interesting, I didn't know telephones of different countries had their own "accents". When I first go my cell, the available tunes drove me nuts because no matter what the tune, I kept hearing it over and over in my head. At the time I didn't want a regular ring, so I called the cell company...
I would disagree on Dewey. He had wavy hair and bushy eyebrows:

Don't know who Dan Andrews is, he didn't come up on google.
Is this a picture from a family member? Is so, I'm thinking the guys on the right and left with the circles around...
Hmmm, you just gave me an idea. I too have been frustrated with finding shelves filled with Chinese made garbage in local thrift stores. Maybe I should try driving an hour or two out the area. Which direction, I know not.
