    Naked City (1948)

Funny you should mention that particular movie. It's sitting here waiting for me to plop it in the DVD player. There's a new bar just down the road from me that was named after it, Naked City Taphouse

    Vintage Phones

My barber has one in his shop. I was just in there today for a haircut and took a peek at it, Stromberg Carlson.

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

How cool, another Seattle person! There's at least a few of us hanging out here. So besides your jacket, what vintage stuff interests you?

Need advice on cleaning the lining of a jacket???

If it's not terribly filthy and they don't reek of that "old clothes" smell, I wouldn't bother with it. I bought a used leather jacket from a thrift store for $15 a while back. Pros wanted to charge me $50 to clean it! Forget that. I did some research online and was surprised to find that...

    Is it 2008 or 1958?? - Retro marriage, 21st century-style

There's a social factor to consider also. Women in their roles as wives and mothers, can be the most influential and powerful people there are. Two examples I like to site, Theodore Roosevelt and General Douglas MacArthur. Before he was President, Teddy Roosevelt was Secretary of the...

    Vintage Phones

Well, I've been home sick with a bug and only energy enough to surf the net, I can't find diddly/squat about antique Japanese telephones. I sent an inquiry under the category of "other" to NEC themselves. Also having trouble trying to find a local (Seattle area) antique telephone club, gotta...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

I must have inherited my "thrift crawl" genes from Mom. Every time I visit her, she has something she found at a yard sale or thrift store. Last visit I got these items from her. I always pay her cash for the the items. She's very good at finding things and spotting the good stuff...

Are there any established methods for resizing a human head?

Reshape your noggin? Yes, very easy. Any female would be willing to do that. Just answer this question when they ask: "Does this make me look fat?" Doesn't matter what your answer is.

What do you use to shave?

I have it in my possession. I got it from a family member but want to give them a fair price. It appears to have had some rough use, as it's a little out-of-round as seen in this picture. I picture some prisoner in a jail raking it across the bars.

    Vintage Phones

Sounds like the hassle I went through to get it was worth it. Had a hard time finding the place, but eventually we connected. Funny, I was going to guess "Nippon Electric Company", but my first guess was it was just a US phone with an Asian dial card, perhaps used in an Asian business, and...

I have it, those are pics I took at home. I hate Image Shack. Here's a better look at the center of the dial. NEC - Northern Electric Company?

    Vintage Phones

So what did I get? The competition (and prices) of my preferred model of choice, a WE 202, is fierce, so I downgraded a bit and looked at other (less costly) models. I got this from a Craigslist post today for $30. Dial and switch hook seem to function ok, of course it needs the modern plug in...

    Vintage Phones

Telephone EXchange Name Project Came across this database while surfing the net. One hint: Not sure if it's just my computer (I've been having problems with it lately), but the database is slow as molasses in IE. Does better in FF. I submitted the exchange I remember we had as a kid in the...

I think I'll go get it anyway. It reminds me of Toll House cookie dough, my Mom's were the best!

Wanna 1920s/'30s-style Newsboy Cap? Have One Made!

That would explain why I felt I looked like a complete dork when I tried on a modern version. Something wasn't right, but I didn't know what. Great info!

    why don't they sell abroad?

I was going to point that out, but from a buyers standpoint. In all my eBay searches, I specify only items located in the US, simply because of shipping charges. Even then, some items I want are in the opposite corner of the country and hence shipping is still too much.

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

You're correct, my error. She passed away in January 07. (I'm still in 08 mode).

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

A bit belated, but none-the-less... She passed away a year ago. Just to make this interesting, I'll let you guess who. My Dad always said she was a real "looker" (old-fashioned term for saying a woman was beautiful). Of course, as a kid watching her on TV, I had no idea what he meant or that...
