Whilst looking through some old pictures of 1940s movie actresses I spotted this one of Veronica Lake, wearing this gorgeous swimsuit, exactly like the one on ebay a few day before! Its such a gorgeous swimsuit and obviously Veronica Lake thought so too...
I think sniping is great, especially as all the nice thing these days are on the US ebay and normally finish in the early hours over here in the UK!
If I bid for something in the UK most of the time i just bid normally. Sometimes i do this for US items to, but i find if i put a bid...
I'm not sticking up for this seller but why can't she buy dresses from other sellers and then sell them on? After all this is what most dealers do, and not just on ebay. At shows, dealers will go round early in the morning buy up the bargins and then sell them on, this happens loads and not just...
You can get hair rats from Claire's, they are a ring shape so you have to cut them in half, but they are only a couple of pounds anyway. Or you could get one from Boots, there are round but are secured with a popper so they can be used in different ways, but they are about £5. Hope this helps!
That is one gorgeous dress! :D
I always love everything that seller puts on, i wonder where she still finds all this great stuff, shame the price always go so high!
I think you could get away with out for the late 40's look but a little (not too full) petticoat may give it more dramatic effect (little nipped in waist, etc)
If you can find a cobbler, great go for it!!:D I just wouldn't try and do it myself (as in not take them to a specialist) as i have seen shoes that have had splits down the front, side and on the anklestrap because people with larger feet have decided to wear them, without any thought on taking...
I don't think any vintage shoes are good for wear if they are too small/too tight, even leather shoes, as the fabric just isnt as supple as it used to be. I have seen plenty of 40's shoes ripped/ruined that are put up for sale at various event and on ebay as they were just too small and now no...
I agree, you'd only kick yourself if you came out of the water only to find that it had started to stretch or disintigrate and even more so being a cute 2 piece that sounds a lovely piece to own.
You could wear tennis like plimsoles the ones that lace up. I have seen a few vintage pairs, and during the 40's they were worn with leisure outfits and even by some of the womens services, like the WAC with there PT kit and the WRNS with there rig uniform. I have also found they are in quite...
I don't know so much about American styles, but British styles would have been pretty much the same for the beginning part of the 40's due to fabric restrictions and rationing which meant the same clothes had to be worn year after year and occasionally revamped. This may of been the same in the...
I used this type of deodrant, i can't remember the exact brand name, a few years back and though it would be great as it wouldn't harm my clothes. But believe me it does! It rotted the armpit of a few of my dresses and shirts! I couldn't believe it! It might of just been me but i always put...
I have a couple of 40's dress that i always though were nylon, but after finding out that WAC slips were made of the same material i looked in a book and found out that the fabric is actually called knitted rayon. I love this fabric as it hangs so nicely and washes really well!
Also i find that having an item dry cleaned doesn't really get rid of the smell. I have had a few things dry cleaned and they still smell when they come back, so its not really worth the bother.
