How to tell the difference between Repro and Real Vintage

I wouldn't suggest you buy off ebay unless your totally sure its vintage, it cheap or you just love it! I would recommend going to vintage fairs (not really the cheapest place to buy, espcially down here in London!) but the are great to look around and it will give you a good idea of fabric...

    Amami wave set?

I saw that article too, and I'm so annoyed its being discontinued :(! I have used it for ages, and now weirdly like the smell of it too haha! I have thick hair and find this is the only stuff that will keep my hair curly for a day or too! So I'm stock buying now lol! But what I didn't relise...

Another question about hair--taming the mane.

Regarding the boar bristle brushes, I have had a look around, and there seems to be two types hard or soft bristles, which one would be the best? There're also ones with handles and ones without but I suppose that would be up to personal preference :).

Can you help me date this item??

Wow! That blue velvet number is a fantastic find! Especially to still have the matching coat with it! Yep, I would definitely say that was 1930s, maybe mid 30's. The coat is gorgeous too! I would say that was late 40's early 50's, due to the nipped in waist and flared skirt. Maybe leave the...

Has anyone found a good red lipstick that does not smudge???

Ooo I love the whole matt range Revlon has done! :D I bought two red colours, one being the one you mentioned the other 'In The Red', and a nude colour. I haven't tried the reds yet, but I love the nude one! It stays on for ages and doesn't have any horrible smells or tastes (I have some weird...

the leopard can never change its spots

Me too! I have seen quite a few leopard print items from the 40's/50's. Fur gloves, hats and a few weeks back even a sheepskin leopard print CC41 coat from the 1940s!

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

I think the dress would be find to handwash. The lining will probably crinkle up but should be fine once you iron it out. I definitely wouldn't put it in the washing machine though, even on a gentle wash and its more than likely that with that old lace you will get one if not a few holes forming.

The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

Oo I have a lovely grey suit that I just can't wear beacuse it smells of BO so badly, so I was just wondering is it malt or white vingear you use as i'm definatly willing to try this out! I would normally wash any items with an odor, but this is a grey suit with kelly green trim and green and...

    Show us what you've made!

Wow! I had a suit a while back that was exactly the same as the red polka dot picture, the same red and white fabric and white cotton trim and everything! The only thing different was it had half circle patch pockets on the bust, but again with the same trim! It was a really cute suit, however...

Getting the zipper all the way up

I have seen a device from the 40's (in its packaging or else I wouldn't have a clue what it was!) that is similiar to the ribbon idea... it just would of been more expensive! I believe you clipped it to the zipper then zipped up with ease due to the extra length of the 'tool'! Whether you left...

    Your Favorite Film Costumes

I love that outfit in Casablanca, its so simple! I also like the fact she is wearing low shoes... very rare to see a leading lady in anything less than 4" killer platforms! I heard that a lot of costume were often recycled over the years :(... its sad to think that alot, if not most of these...

Vintage shopping in New York :)

I have had a quick look, but there is nothing recent showing good places to shop :(. Yep, i'm sure things will be on the pricey side, but hopefully I can find a few bargins! After all I don't think prices could be much worse than what they charge over here, and especially up in London :O...
