UK Vintage clothing dealers tend to use vintage for anything that is 20yrs old or more but it's a very loose consensus amongst dealers. Basically it's as valuable a term as 'rare' or 'collectible' are on ebay :)

You could try cutting strips of felt from the sort of square that you pick up at craft shops. If you want an adhesive option the draught-excluder foam Hatsdirect supply seems to work okay, I've also seen people use the fluffy piece from the two part strips of velcro you can pick up from...
If it's a pre-80's hat, they were nice hats. The modern ones are re-badged Tonak and not the best quality Tonak, okay hats but not worth the money HJ charge.
Ole - it's a great carol, but my singing voice makes Mr Zimmerman's sound like nectar :)
