This debate comes up every so often. I do not tell people, generally, that I reenact. Only later, after they know me do I talk about it, because so many people have a distorted view. I enjoy living history, I enjoy setting up displays and trying to give folks, especially kids, a taste of the...
I own the ATF shoes, other than the fact that they squeak, or at least the right one squeaks, they are great. I wear them as near everyday shows. They run about a half size smaller, I normally take an 8 1/2 or 9 and I have an 8, they fit great.
For the record I also have a pair of WPG's...
I have had lots and lots of boot experience lately:
At The Front Service Shoes and Para Boots:
Made in China but these are excellent boots, They broke in quickly, only problem is the right one on both pairs has developed a squeak, any suggestions to getting it out?
What Price Glory...
I love my Fed, absolutely love it, more than my vintage stuff which really does say something I think.
I could care less about the whole "Indy" thing; if nothing else it was the forums off Indy Gear.com that helped me pick out such a great hat.
One of these days (distant they may be) when I...
Wear them sometimes, I have a blood red one and a black one, pair that black one with a short sleeve white shirt and black rimmed glasses and you to can be a NASA ground controller.
Stupid Question:
Is the Three Piece Tweed based off Henry Jones Sr's suit from the Last Crusade?
I need on eventually for when I get my PhD and need that classic Professor look.
Actually as a part-time Free-French Reenactor the Kepi Brim is up like that because that's how it is generally taken off, flipping the brim like a basball cap. If you look at some pictures of FFL troops the brims are almost always bent upwards.
Not that this helps your problem, but, you know...
Just recieved my Akbura Federation in the mail the other day. If you are looking for an Indy hat and cannot afford an Adventurebilt, Akubra is the way to go. I got mine from Hats Direct and bashed it myself. I love it!
I bought an M41 to wear last year, I love it. Classic look and down in the South it is just the right weight. Paired with a brown Fedora you have a great look, I think.
1 May 1957 was the date of the Army Green Uniform; essentially what you see today. So your hat can date from at least that time. That's when the WWII type uniforms that we know and love were replaced. Judging by the Fur Felt Construction I would say your hat is earlier rather than later. Late...
For many years I've bought vintage hats; you name it. My proudest find is the Stetson that is the exact duplicate of the hat worn in the Blues Brothers for $1 at the Goodwill. However, everything has been vintage up to this point.
I just placed an order for an Akubra Federation so I too can...
Man, now I have to get pics of my impression up; I do RNVR Sub-Lt. In both the No. 5 dress uniform and Beach Commando BD. Great fun actually.
Pics coming; I hope!
A shop called Air Diggers (google it) carries all manner of RAF gear, including black and white sweaters. Black was issue, White was RN issue that everybody adapted. Actually the RN sweater was issued to Submarine crews; it took off from there.
I find this new uniform interesting for a few reasons.
First and foremost: During the War (WWII, of course) a buttoned collar in the British Army was the sign of an enlisted bloke. In fact the convertable collar was a innovation pioneered by the US Army in 1937. It was thought to be smarter...
