They didn't ban hats, they just want you not to wear it inside. They still let you in with the hat, as long as you carry it and not wear it, right? That's you would normally do with a fedora, anyway.
In ascending order of fullness of taste: Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardberg. The Lagavulin tastes like it's made with water taken from the bottom of the North Sea-delicious. I've never tasted the Ardberg, but it's supposed to be even more powerfull.

I think that an "Indy" hat would be perfect with a western shirt. It's a dress hat with an adventurer twist to it. There are many good ones to choose from, among which the Adventurebuilt-brown or grey, Herbert Johnson-brown, and Akubra Federation-brown, grey, sand and black.

Use suspenders that button on, clip-on suspenders are bad taste, and they can unclip easily. You can put brace buttons on, it'll be OK. Even better is if you can remove the belt loops, if there are any.
I think that "total war" is a German conception of war. Like you said, they bombed London as early as WW1, and they also invented gas and flamethrowers, weapons that correspond with their idea of war.
