On the first one there's no telling what it is exactly, other than a wide-brimmed fedora.
On the second, it's a fedora with a center crease and a brim on the outer edges of stingy (looks to be about 2"), typical of the time it was taken.
Cheers,
Tom
You would think so, but you won't see it until another profession that's rarely seen (and already been mentioned here) makes a major comeback first: the housewife. Or househusband. Or whatever it takes for a neigborhood to have a majority of houses with someone staying home during the day (other...
Happy Birthday, gentlemen! :eusa_clap:eusa_clap
Being on the 50+ side myself, I know what it's like to look at the calendar and wonder "How the hell did that happen? I was 25 just yesterday!" :p
Here's to another 50+! :cheers1:
Tom
And the verbage in the auction flat-out said he was trying to avoid fees and was using the shipping cost as a starting point for bidding.
He was reported. He now has an $8 shipping fee and a $200 starting bid, with the language about shipping removed from the auction.
Cheers,
Tom
I've won a few auctions recently of non-standard lids.
A Stetson Medalist Boater:
A grey Dobbs Bowler;
A navy homburg by Dobbs:
And a Dobbs Twenty in the Gay Prince style:
Here's a white Barcelona Twenty I was runner-up on:
And this doesn't include hats won to give to my...
Glad to hear you're OK, D-guy. Others over there on different mailing lists I'm on are checking in; some haven't yet.
This is one of the wonderful side benefits of the Internet. Before the Internet something like this would happen and we'd hear about it, but it was usually somewhat...
You know, that raises a couple of questions. For example, what level of annual sales would be required to have kept it going, assuming their other dress hats require similar levels? How many non-western dress hats do they sell in total each year, and since most of us rarely see anyone else with...
Good luck to you, and congratulations on having the courage do so. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap I live in an area of very high unemployment but few people here are willing to leave to find work, even if it's only two hours away in Columbus, Cincinnati, or Dayton.
Take care,
Tom
You know, I consider myself a fairly well-educated guy, able to wrap my mind around different concepts... but this one I'm really having trouble with!
But seriously, very nice collection, my friend!:eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap
Cheers,
Tom
I'm with you on this one, Hutch. For some reason the term "hoodie" just grates on my nerves. Not sure why; I don't have anything against the garments themselves though I rarely wear one these days.
Cheers,
Tom
Thanks for the photo, Kahuna! I've looked for pictures of those later Helm's trucks as those are the ones I remembered, but usually all you can find are the older ones.
Remember that wonderful scent that wafted out of the truck when the driver pulled open those rear doors?
Cheers,
Tom
Great shots in the museum, Lloyd! Growing up in South Gate we used to go to the LA museums frequently in the summers. I loved the Natural History museum! And the Science and Industry museum, and the Space museum... :D
Anyway, thanks for bringing back memories! The last time I was out that way...

When I was stationed on Guam in the mid-90s I remember reading that the inhabitants of Guam were the highest per-capita consumers of two products: Spam and Budwieser. I must admit I'd never known there were so many varieties of Spam before I ventured into a...
When I was stationed in Germany my BMW motorcycle club took a tour of one of the Maginot Line forts. It was an amazing facility! We were told that the one that we toured was not captured by the Germans, and indeed did not open up, until a French general was brought to the site and ordered them...
Man, I hate it when that happens! :eusa_doh:
I think that most of us can probably relate to that; I know that I've stumbled across a hat or two in the last moments of an auction and on first glance it looks like a great idea, so I bid... only to realize that a. there's something about it that...
