What About Hoodies Under Leather Jackets?

I am not a big fan, but I don't think it looks bad, in a rocker kind of way. I don't wear hoodies any more, although I used to all the time. One look that makes me laugh that I saw a lot in high school was khaki pants and a blue blazer but with a hoodie underneath. It just looked kinda silly. The reason I don't wear them now is that I don't see anything hoodies do that sweaters don't, especially considering I wear scarves and hats all the time.

What I hate is the term "hoodie." It is another example of street terminology going mainstream and I do not care for or buy into the whole street culture thing. That is why I usually call them hooded jackets or hooded sweatshirts!

I'm with you on this one, Hutch. For some reason the term "hoodie" just grates on my nerves. Not sure why; I don't have anything against the garments themselves though I rarely wear one these days.

I have worn a hooded sweat shirt under various leather jackets off and on for years, they are a warm and practicle solution for very cold weather. I do not have a problem with them.

Well, both subjects are ok. I think manufacters started to attach hoods to leather jackets or hipsterizing as a result of this particular trend.

I was under the impression that the original post addressed both. However, I dislike fake layering, be it this or those fake waistcoats that you wear with a tux. I like all of the garments shown to be real and complete.

Here in Southern California even in the warmest of weather you see guys wearing hoodies as some sort of fashion statement that seems to include a weird passive aggressive vibe. They wear the hoodie up so they can't see to the sides like some kind of blinders for horses. It says don't engage with me don't even look at me. At the same time a distinct portion also use their body language to effect a sense or aura of menacing or intimidation. i saw the film Max Payne and the 3 guys in the subway seem to be the culmination of the fashion statements of the great unwashed, hoodies included.

Hoodie leather jackets are very common at my campus, as far as leather jacket wearers are concerned, themselves quite a bit of people. I don't own a hoodie, used to but lost 60 pounds, and I doubt I'd ever wear one that has the hood attached to the leather jacket. I won't put myself above ever wearing an actual, separate hoodie for such purpose, if I buy one for some reason, but I wouldn't consider purchasing a leather with one "built-in." I'm under the impression that much of what I usually see around campus is "pleather," bought at malls or department stores by trendy brands. I don't hate the look, but it isn't for me.

I have been looking for a zip up close fitting sweat shirt, to layer under my A2 leather jackets in colder weather. One that is short enough so the waist knit is at belt level, with no hood, no fold over collar, just exactly like a sweat shirt, only with a zipper. I have never seen something like this. It would be easier to unzip and cool down, rather than having to remove the jacket, to pull off a sweat shirt or even a sweater over your head. I have seen sweat shirt jackets with zippers, but they have hoods on them. These hooded garments are not make for wearing either under or over an A2.

Me too. If it's cold and I'm messing around in the garage or out running errands on the bike I normally grab a leather jacket and a hoodie, it's functional and I don't think it looks too bad either.

I have seen several comments here from posters who wear the cotton hoodies (sweatshirts) for warmth under a leather jacket, or, perhaps, by themselves. For warmth without bulk, try wool sweaters. They work great and add little bulk under the jacket. Of course if one is engaging in sports activities, the sweatshirt can be thrown in the washer and dried with no ill effects. Not so the wool sweater, but it is so much warmer on cold days when one is not engaging in physical activity.

Check the camping supply places like REI, uniform supply and some of the big military surplus places like Major Surplus. There are a variety of made separate liners for jackets that are zippered and sounds like would work for what you want.

I couldn't agree more Hutch. Whenever I hear someone use the term "hoodie", it somehow makes them seem less intelligent. Now, I know language is in a constant state of evolution and that the word "hoodie" has become part of the modern vocabulary but, to me, it still sounds like a word a child would use.

Back to the topic, I don't have a problem with someone wearing a hooded sweatshirt under a leather jacket as long as they're doing it to keep warm rather than an attempt to follow some form of fashion sense. I have at least one hooded sweatshirt around here somewhere because I find them to be more comfortable than sweaters. So, for me, it serves a practical purpose. But I can't recall ever wearing it under a leather jacket; one or the other is more than enough to keep me warm even in the coldest winter weather in this part of southern California.

Yes! There it is, the defining term that I've been looking for "The Great Unwashed"!! Very clever John, a perfect description of that part of our culture that wallows in rags and slovenly appearance. I've got a hoodie and a leather jacket...never worn together! But then again, I don't wear pajama bottoms and flip flops to the grocery store or mall.
