Stinky,
Thanks for the input on the comparison.
I'd say I'll be happiest with the Imperial Campdraft for the silverbelly choice.
I look at it this way ... the worst that can happen is after a bit of wear I decide to save up for a Deluxe. Wouldn't that be terrible?
Thanks for all the...
You're still just a couple hours away.
It would be a trip of a lifetime from here, and from what I can tell, it must take about that long to get there. A couple of days, apparently.
The pics are all breath taking, though.
Sam
Mdove,
Yeah, they really do seem to be made for each other, to me.
I feel like they both speak to the era of better styling, when the shirts were bright and the brims were wide!

As I have noted in this thread already ... I have long worn vintage ORs turned into fedoras. I began doing so around the time I first started reporting, over 30 years ago, because in this western area, dressy old...

Thanks for the input and considering you can just drive over to Katoomba and shop in the Hattery, it's well worth the advice.
They are great people to deal with and if I weren't spending every spare buck on hats, I'd love to travel over and vacation in the Blue Mountains.
I'm not...
I have both and the difference is in the brim. If you crease them the same, the crowns are pretty much identical and there isn't all that much difference in the brim ... especially if you are used to wide brim hats to begin with.
I really like the dimensions of the Bushman, and if it came in...
61 here again today .... Man it's hard to hang on.
They say we could see snow by the weekend and a lingering cold spell.
Dang!
I know it's going to make me wish I'd popped out some Alohas this week.
What about down South?
Sam
OK, so in the next few weeks I will be deciding ... on the Silverbelly Campdraft ... do I go Imperial or Heritage?
I really like my two Imperial Campdrafts. I like the light weight of the felt. But I would hate to get a silverbelly and end up wishing I'd kicked in the extra down the line...
Looks to me like it was last June that we all considered Aloha shirts and fedoras ... and that's TOOOOOOO long to wait!
Three things ....
I've got one of the last Willow Green Squatters on its way and a silverbelly CD coming after that. They are begging for some Aloha time before it gets...
If ... note, I said "IF" ... a guy was young and built so that he could wear one of the currently trendy, skin tight, minimalist suits that you see on the kids on TV, this would be a great hat to go along with that look.
I'm certainly not ... I need all the shoulder pads and lapels I can get...
Blackthorn,
I walked into the local Goodwill about a year ago and for just a few bucks I picked up a brand new Rawlings laptop bag "man purse" that is made out of the same material as a Rawlings baseball glove. It's an incredible bag and I've used the heck out of it, though it is too shallow...
I have to say, Jim, I have enjoyed all of the Akubras I have found so far.
As I explained, when I first started accumulating them, I was still hoping to come up with the vintage OR in my size and a year ago I did come up with a great condition Stetson Stratoliner. I got it at a great price...
As I recall ... the toon came along a little late for my kids ... but from the ads, I remember it was a stingy brim black fedora. Not a remarkably good looking hat.
People just say what comes into their heads ... trying to be smart.
I showed up to fill in at a friend's church one Sunday...
Mike
It is what it is, but I think you're on to a good looking hat there.
It might take some wear and tear to get it where you want it, but you sure have a lot of raw material.
I'll bet it would be a nice one for warm weather, nice and light.
Looks good.
Sam
I blame the lack of old toppers here directly at the feet of Gene Autrey and "Frosty the Snowman"
There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found.

Stinkin' vandal kids ... putting top hats on filthy snowmen
Harrumpfff!
Sam
Edward,
My heart goes out to you....
In four decades of hat collecting, I have taken severe abuse on many occasions, but I've never been called Inspector Gadget
Man, that was one ugly hat!
Try to bear up...
Sam
Well, Chase, for me it would be the three hats I've been looking for since 1974:
1 Long finish beaver top hat in a medium brown or tan
2 Beaver felt Mexican combrero
and 3, the American equivalent, an original Tom Mix-style western
All three in my size and wearable condition, of...
Blackthorn,
Still hangin' under the hat, I see.
I noticed this hat and from a pure collector standpoint, I think it would be quite a find, I mean if you came across it in a flea market for a few bust, especially since it appears to have the original tag and is, I presume, NOS
Notice...
I really love my Fed. IV.
I have it creased in a "Crystal Skull" sort of pinch.
For the record, I was wearing leather jackets and vintage brown fedoras before Indy hit the screen ... no offense, Dr. Jones, and over the years since then, I have heard the Indy comments when I would wear...
