    English-style blazer

Queen's College, Oxford, is singular, while Queens' College, Cambridge is plural--correct? The Oxford college was founded by the wife of one of your Kings Edward, while the Cambridge college was founded by one queen and re-founded by another.

    New Seersucker

    1. Just about any brown or white shoes will work, in a pinch. White bucks are said to be the classic pairing with seersucker, but you have a lot of variety. 2. Yes. Light colors, especially blue, work very well with seersucker. 3. Yes, you should wear a belt. Go for brown leather...

    One Button Roll Two Suit?

It began to be more popular postwar, in the late '40s and '50s. Flusser has a picture of Dean Acheson wearing it during his time in office, which was '49-'53. I think the style itself had been around on and around college campuses since at least the '30s, though.

    Scrapbook about my turn-of-the-century great-grandfather

For my birthday this year, my mother and my aunt gave me one of the best presents I've ever received: a scrapbook with photos and information about my great-grandfather, who died in the 1950s. Mom and Aunt Terry didn't know much about him themselves, and did a great deal of research to identify...

    Show us your suits

That may be true for some SR houses, but I get the feeling that others were happy to do them--usually with the lower two cut and finished, and the upper two sham. I've seen (and sold) two or three Savile Row suits from the '50s-'60s that had this arrangement. I know one was Henry Poole; don't...

    They've gone too far.

According to an ad I saw once, more blades mean less pressure has to be exerted on each one. Pressure causes friction, friction causes irritation.

Out of the Humidor: The sad demise of pipe smoking

I fill the bowl in three stages. First, trickle in enough tobacco to fill the bowl, and pack it very lightly--if at all. Second, take a big pinch and stuff it into the bowl, pushing it down and packing it with moderate firmness. Last, take another pinch and pack it in pretty firmly. All the...

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

The main thing I remember about that tuxedo is that he should have been wearing a cummerbund.

    What are you wearing today??

It's possible, though different leathers often crease differently. Sometimes different pairs of the same shoe in the same size will crease differently, for whatever reason. Probably just variations in the pieces of leather.

    Anatomy of a hat?

A hat block is a form, usually made of wood, on which a hat is shaped. Putting a hat on a block and conforming it to the block's shape is called blocking. Most felt hats are blocked on dome-shaped blocks, and then the bash or crease is added by hand or by machine. Most panama hats are done on...
