Hank Williams: I Saw the Light

Wow, that is an amazing find! The show that Hank never made it to. He died on the way to that show. I'd definitely get that framed. If it's authentic it's probably worth some major bucks.

Thanks. The only problem with the chairs is they're too darn comfortable. I kick back with a book in one of them and I'm out like a light. No wonder it takes me so long to get through a book!

For quite a while we have been wanting some mid-century saucer floor lamps to be age appropriate with our 1947 house. But ones in nice condition always seemed to be about $100 or more each so we learned to live with our perfectly functional but lacking style Walmart lamps. This morning while we...

You mean one of these? It was just out of the frame in the guitar picture. I found it when cleaning out my in-laws garage. Very lucky to have in-laws who lived in Hawaii during the 40s.

Thanks for the comments. I really like hanging out in this room. Guitar is a late 20's Silvertone (Sears) guitar. The neck is too warped for regular playing but works fine for slide and records well. That big tiki is a concrete one that my in-laws brought back with them from the time they lived...

I'm pretty sure some of these have been posted elsewhere on the forum but, since we're tiki specific here, here's a few I've managed to pick up over the past 20 years or so. You can tell by the pictures that dusting isn't my strong suit. Love that hula girl dh66. I've been looking for an old...

    Vintage Police Uniforms

I found this picture in a Palouse, WA antique store a couple weeks ago. I've been told by people on the LA Noirish thread of the Skyscraper forum that this was the uniform of the speed squad of the Los Angeles police and that the picture was taken somewhere around 1910-1920. I'd be interested to...

I had a little luck at the yard sales today. First this group of 30's and 40's ties for 25 cents a piece: Then I found this cool photo of what may be a Los Angeles plainclothes policeman: As near as I can figure he is standing in front of the old central district police station at First &...

I'm usually more of a bold look guy but couldn't pass up these 30's era ties I found at a yard sale for 25 cents apiece today. I did get one bold look out of the bunch and, for some reason, the really sedate burgundy on the left has a look that I really like.

    Flash Gordon's Motorhome

I just came across this video and thought I would update the thread. It's interesting to hear all the thought that went into this thing. Totally hand-built, it's way out of my price range. But one can dream, can't one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUzqXJjpq94

I'm looking for a book on Victorian architecture

The book "American Victoriana" consists of excellent reprints of articles from the era (1880s/1890s) from Scientific American - Architects & Builders Edition. Beautiful color plates and nice engravings, lots of detail. And a used copy can be found very cheaply...

After another long dry spell I finally came across a couple nice ones today. I'm not sure if the musical themed one originally had that worn out paint look or if it just got that way through years of use.

    Your favorite room

I'm hoping a few of you forumites will be willing to share some photos of your favorite room. You know, the room in your house where you feel most comfortable, surrounded by your favorite stuff. Guitars

Just picked this one up at a local antique store for $85. The neck is warped and not repairable since there's no truss rod but since I play slide anyway, no problemo. It was pretty cool to cut off the old strings (flat wounds probably from the 30's) and have her sing again. She's only an old...

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

I'm afraid even the term watch is not long for this world. I live in a university town and if you happen to ask a student what time it is, nine times out of ten they'll whip out their phone.
