I had a little luck at the yard sales today. First this group of 30's and 40's ties for 25 cents a piece:

Then I found this cool photo of what may be a Los Angeles plainclothes policeman:

As near as I can figure he is standing in front of the old central district police station at First & Hill street in downtown LA.

Today's car boot finds;
A 'Colorol' aluminium waterbottle that appears to have been never used, a bakelite shaving bowl( might have something missing from it's middle?) and a German? deco inspired desk clock-it doesn't work but it was too cheap to leave!

I was out looking at open houses, all out of my price range, when I stumbled onto a garage sale. It was getting ready to rain and they were putting every thing away. I found this on the table, never even opened, I offered them $20, they took it! Not sure which version I am going to build, I am more partial to the early Elco 77 footers, I like the Higgins 78', and even the rare Huckin 78' boats before the 80' boats! I researched the 109 a little, forget about what color it was, even forget about how the 37mm anti tank gun was lashed to the deck, there are literally pages of arguments on whether the mast was up, down or not on the boat at all that night! I found this model in the early medium grey scheme which could be used to model any of the early Solomon Islands boats. Although it would almost be ashamed not to use that nice 37mm. I did find out, PT103, also tried the same set up.

Did it come with a model of the Amagiri?

The middle shot shows why the PT109 never stood a chance! The Amagiri was doing close to 40 knots, while the 109 was idling on one engine as per protocol, to reduce the phosphorescent wake that one of the earlier Skippers said, "the boat's wake was, for the floatplane pilots a bright shining arrow pointing right up my a**." Also, the PT boats used a tremendous amount of fuel at speed. Not to mention, no Skipper wanted to become a member of the infamous Hard Rock Club, by running aground on all the unmarked rocks. The Destroyer was looking down with the finest binoculars in the world, and able to see the wake for miles away. The 109, was looking straight at it and only had 11 seconds to react.

Riiiggghhhttt. The boat was fast and responsive. He was stupidly fooled into thinking a HUGE destroyer was another PT boat and stood there waiting to get hit. lol lol
