    1950's Hubley Atomic Disintegrator replica

Very detailed work. You don't happen to be an art director or property master for the film industry do you? If not, you may have missed your calling.

Deco cycle & scooter, I'll take one of each.

Industrial designer Randy Grubb came up with this deco-inspired pair to go along with his deco-inspired motorhome, the "DecoLiner" which has been discussed on this forum before. The guy sure is a master of metalwork. More pictures here: http://oldtrailer.com/decoliner-motorhome.html

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Nice to hear there are others who were permanently screwed up because of new math. I actually enjoyed and did well in math up until the 7th grade when new math was introduced. It didn't help that I had a teacher who probably didn't understand the concepts himself. By my sophomore year in high...

    Vintage grocery stores

When my grandfather on my Dad's side was gradually dying from a brain tumor, he set my grandmother up in the grocery business so she would have a steady income. The store was set up in the front room of their house, a room probably no bigger than 12'x12'. I wish I had pictures to share but the...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

If you're talking about that bill spike, be sure to leave it on the desk top. My Dad once sorted his bills on the couch and later impaled himself when he sat on the bill spike. The thought of it still makes my flesh crawl.:eeek:

I'm a tightwad, partly by nature & partly by necessity, so I was on the lookout for a nice leather jacket below $25 or so. I was a little surprised when I asked them the price at checkout and they said a dollar. Taken!

I found this for a buck at the Catholic rummage sale last weekend. To be honest with you I didn't know what I'd found until I googled "Cooper A-2" just now. It seems I've stumbled upon a coveted flight jacket. Viva rummage sales!

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

I found out yesterday that Bob Brozman, incredible slide guitar player, world music collaborator, and literally the guy who wrote the book on National steel guitars passed away. Only 59, a sad loss. RIP Bob.

Share your own art here :)

I play both on the lap and in standard position. Unlike most lap steel players I play in standard EADGBE tuning so I can switch to standard position quickly.

I've just discovered this thread. Lots of talented people here! Here's a watercolor I did of an early Hawaiian steel guitar player.

    Show Us Your Oldest Books

Just found this book at a Friends of the Library booksale last night for $2. Since it was published in 1781 it trumps my previously oldest book by more than 80 years.

What gives you that vintage feeling?

I've been writing a book for my family on the occasion of what would have been my mom & dad's 100th year on earth so I've been reading the diaries of my mom & grandmother. It really sets me back in that time period. An entry about my mom & dad's trip to California from Pennsylvania in 1943 has...

Here's my two most recent finds, a Kodascope Eight-33 projector (works just fine) and a vintage Hawaiian shirt (only my second original find in 20 years of collecting Hawaiian shirts.

    Hawaiian Shirts - Aloha Shirts

After collecting Hawaiian shirts for nearly 20 years (always at thrift store prices, can't afford to pay collector prices) I came across my second vintage original yesterday. The moment I touched it I knew I was on to something special. Something about the feel of the originals just hasn't...

I found this book at a yard sale for a quarter today. Unfortunately it won't make me rich but it is very interesting to me to see the way space travel was imagined at around the time I was born. Some cool illustrations from the golden age of children's picture books.

    Show us your TIES

I ventured a little outside my usual preference for bold look ties and bought these narrower ties today. Both are painted with reflective paints in case you're out walking at night and need to be seen. The one on the right is a Towncraft, the other is unlabeled.

    Favorite Historic Buildings or Places

Certainly not the fanciest building listed here but my favorite music venue is Cordelia Lutheran, nestled in the wheat fields south of Moscow, Idaho. Having been built in 1883 it is the oldest standing Lutheran church in Idaho. It is surrounded by miles of nothing but wheat fields and has no...
