I might take a chance on resizing a wider brimmed 6 7/8 Strat up a size or two, but I think a 6 3/4 is just too small to resize to an average adult head size (+- 7 1/8) and still have any brim left. It just wouldn't look like a Stratoliner anymore. It's probably only good for display...
Belay that! I now feel very comfortable tackling brim bindings by hand. We must face our fears in order to overcome them, right? I have broken my teeth on these and am now rejuvenated, I don't need no stinking machine! I can do it, man!
I have not yet attempted this, but have recently done what I believe is a pretty fair job at a brim binding. The stitch work required for a good liner tip seems less daunting overall. You have performed well on the former, and am sure you will excel at the latter.
Wow! It's kind of sad to see the rare "beaver" finish go, but it looks very good, and certainly has much more appeal for the average buyer.

I am usually pretty good with my hands myself, but also initially underestimated the art and skill that is involved in this craft. It looks like you did very well on your first build, and exceptionally well on the hatter's tools. Many happy returns!

Thanks Ole. I think it works with the wide brim. I have two Whippets, one 1940's and one 1950's. They have 3/8" and 7/16" bindings, respectively. This one is 1/16" wider than the widest one.

[EDIT] It is a folded 1 1/8", which resulted in 1/2" top and bottom. I like it, and am wearing it at a speakeasy with braces and pinstripe tonight.

I wish I'd done a little better with the seam on the binding, but otherwise very pleased.

Hatter4,
Until recently, I've been buying old hats with high quality fur felt and completely rebuilding them, which has proven pretty economical. I did buy a raw nutria blend body from Winchester a while back though, and that's the one I'm making for my brother.
I'm also going to buy two more...
