My French Lucien de Brabant vintage fedora (early 50s?) is pretty close. His looks like it is made of denser felt, though.
Great film. I love those cars he kept stealing.
Boy, this thread is reminding me of the Ladies of the Lounge thread.
Both continually amaze me.
Except with that thread, I am continually delighted.
With this, continually disgusted.
Yes, Daniel, there are some real chimps out there.
Julia Morgan House thing in Berkeley, Art Deco Society, last month. You were standing with a man. I was wearing a black tuxedo. (So was every other man there.) Someone, perhaps AJ/Wingnut or Miss 1920s, introduced us right as I was about to leave. You were at the head of the stairs.

Well-said. As Aristotle put it, "character is destiny."
There is an inevitability to great noirs that makes them akin to Greek tragedy, especially to Sophocles.
I'd say Out of the Past has a slight sense of irony (the line "I sell gas and make a small profit; he sells groceries and makes a small profit; it's the American Way," or however it was worded; the deaf boy; the sense of inevitability throughout; Kirk Douglas's ridiculous chin), but not camp...
I have seen almost all of them by now. A lot were poor. The only good one was the Dario Argento one, but that one was great. The rest ... iffy.
Horror is such a tricky thing to pull off.
I think I have seen them all. Or at least 3. I loved them. I saw the one about the mailman. I saw Jour du Fete, but I cannot remember what happened. I saw the uncle one, which reminded me of Celine's Death on the Installment Plan for some reason (but more lighthearted, naturellement). Which one...
You may also wish to look into getting the Dark Crimes box set on Amazon. It's un-remastered, and some of the films are not great, but it has 50 films and it's 20 bucks so you cannot go wrong.
I loved it too, except for the male lead's hair.
I liked this film WAY better than Matrix. (My hatred for the lead actor in Matrix knows no bounds. I even forgot his name -- I block it out regularly.)
I loved the floating bald dudes. Kiefer was also excellent.
Marvelous stuff, truly...
Very nice, Sefton. I also would wear a different colored cap.
Will the break in the trousers be lessened if you pull them up more?
I have a belted back jacket of what looks like the exact same material ... a bit short for me, though (I'm a 42 L and it's about a 42).
The natural waist for natural-waisted trousers is above the pelvis. It is at the place on the human anatomy that is also, conveniently, known as the waist. I try to have my trousers' top edge be a bit above my navel. The Flusser quote tells you exactly why a man should get his pants tailored...
A post of mine has dropped out of the thread bemoaning the non-classic quality of "classic" films. Should I chalk it up to data error? I recall nothing offensive in it.
