    IDIOCRACY ... spoilers

It's a comedy, but it's also a very very serious horror movie. An acquaintance of mine said it best once: comedy can be very serious.

    Show us your suits

Few things are as fun as decorating a place from scratch by getting things from thrift stores.

Perhaps I need to go to Nova Scotia.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I recall an antiseptic called Mercurochrome when I was a child and it had the glass thing. It must be another name for the M___ discussed above.

    Gramophones, Phonographs, Victrolas....

Thanks, gents. I'll try to find the model number. Yes, the tone arm is at the wrong angle. The head of the arm is connected to the rest of the arm by the rubber gasket and that needs to be replaced. Otherwise the machine is in good shape.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Roller skates that are all metal and that you attach to the sole of your shoe. They required a "skate key" to fasten them to your shoe.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I like the way those feel.

Can someone tell me about mine? I don't know much about it.

    What gives you "SWAGGER"?

Bamboo walking-stick. I'm serious. I bought one on my last trip to Portland, Oregon. It cost all of 12 bucks or so. I walked to an English friend's house in Berkeley with that cane a-swinging (OK, I also had on a 40s tie, a striped suit, oxblood-and-black saddle shoes, and a cognac...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

1.) Students taking notes on paper in notebooks, rather than bringing the laptop to school, updating one's Facebook page, checking imdb and occasionally typing a few notes. 2.) Making one's own flash cards for verb conjugations and whatnot. 3.) Studying in the library WITH A MAP (and...

    Pomade

Uh-oh -- it's the True Greasers vs the Pansies. I'll bust out my rockabilly LPs and roll up my sleeves ... I'd better hide my Scion XB. At least it's black ...

    Pomade

I found a DEP "gel pomade" that worked quite well, is ungreasy, and washes right out. It was at a dollar store for a buck (as you might guess); I suppose it was discontinued. (Perhaps someone else mentioned it, but I cannot go through all million posts again.)

    IDIOCRACY ... spoilers

I liked the Burger King cash register in the hospital with icons that the doctor presses to figure out what is wrong with the patient. That was too hilarious/horrible.

Do you have a man room/study

Brilliant rooms, gents. Kowalski, yours is my favorite. I don't have a separate room, but rather one of our two living rooms is where all my books are and my desk is. I'll try to photograph it at some point. I like how film-quality many of these spaces are. There is also a Home Office...

    Reenacting the Warsaw Uprising?

I have been to Warsaw many times and a friend there told me about these reenactments. Utterly cool.

    Californians Please check in!

Berkeley and San Francisco here. I go to school at the University of California at Berkeley. I live in Berkeley a lot, but hang out in SF more and lived there for 10 years. I always like meeting new people. I have liked very much all the Lounge people I've met: FedoraGent, Lady Day...

    IDIOCRACY ... spoilers

Glad you saw it, Dixon. A real eye-opener. One thing I like about the makers is that they critique stupidity on both the Left AND the Right ... ... and they do it WELL.

What say all the leather satchel threads get combined into one ... just an idea, so everyone knows there is one place to go when deciding upon what to buy ...
