Thanks, gals! It's funny you say that, glamour-girl, that's what my mom said yesterday! I thought it might have been because of my plaid shirt- looked like I was being Reno-vated lol
Good point- and also in the 30s and 20s it was known that there was the "movie" set and the "socialite" set, and often you see fashion moving in two different spheres based on where their interests lie. The west coast looked more to the movies for inspiration, while the east coast looked to the...
Miss Sis and Neecerie both have very good points.
If you're going, say, 1942, you'd want to look at original sources like magazines, photographs, yearbooks, etc and read up on what was popular. You'd want a general overview of the years preceding this year to be able to see what the basic look...
Lily Powers, that's an excellent point! Vintage yearbooks are FABULOUS resources for hairstyles and how people really dressed and did their makeup- I've found a lot less "fussy" styles there, which is very encouraging.
okie dokie, here's my first successful set with my new hairdo :) I think, in retrospect, I'm going to start the curlers higher up in the back next time. It was a little tricky trying to curl short hair! I'm so used to lots more to have to wind around curlers! I used sponge rollers but there...
I just heard on Club Obi Wan that Baphy, or Koreana, passed away. I know many members knew him better than I did, but he will be missed. Prayers for his friends and family.
Mary, I'm actually planning on reprinting the book since it's out of copyright. Basically there are only a couple of pics of cutting hair and it's pulled back to do layers, the bottom of the neck in the pictures is shaved, but that was too scary for me, so he just clipped it really close.
AmyJeanne, I thought so! I LOVE that movie!
Great job on that dress! I've never had much luck with the re-released vintage patterns but yours looks cute!
Thank you, gals! Yay!!! I feel so much better already :)
I tried a set and sat under the dryer, but it wasn't dry when I took the curlers out (oops?) so I've got another set, this time with sponge rollers so we'll see how it takes...
Ok, I did it! He could fit me in today, so I went and brought a vintage early 30s hairstyle book I have with a few diagrams. I really love it! When it was wet he played with a fingerwave a bit. Here it is normal, but I'm going to try a wet set tonight, and we'll see how it goes. I like that...
Ok, you guys talked me into it :) I'm going to call today and set up an appointment. The guy who does my hair I trust completely- he's always done my hair and my mom's, and he did my hair for my wedding so I'm sure he'll do great! When I get it done I'll post a pic. Thank you so much...
Wow! You gals are helping me out a lot!
I actually have cut my hair short, but it's been two years ago since it was! I used to love how it looked when it was short and I styled it, but I was terribly undisciplined about setting it... Very good point that it grows back...
My husband and I...
That is the question... Whether tis nobler for the head to suffer the shears or... ok, lost momentum there.
I have my hair the longest it's been for about 4 years, but I'm noticing I get a lot more headaches, etc. I am WRETCHED at setting my hair and have been doing braids instead.... but I am...
Ditto the above two ladies. Schiaparelli patterns always go high. Someday I'll find one hidden away that's affordable... *le sigh* Her designs are some of my favorites.
