I'm at the salt and pepper stage. I've never worried about matching anything to my beard color. I do, however, try to wear my grey with authority. ;)
I put a 'diamond' crease of sorts in my Campdraft and showed it to my wife. She said it looked "all wrinkly" so I named it "Old Wrinkle Tail". It morphed into a well defined six pointer but now it currently sports a five point diamond.
It's still is and always will be Old Wrinkle Tail.
And...
My sense is that a simple center dent is indeed more elegant and more formal than any other crease. Maybe that's why I shy away from it since my dress is generally more casual.

I prefer a little or a lot of rake myself but the style you posted is certainly not without precedent. If you know anyone who matches your head size and would be willing to try on your hats for you and can be trusted to give them back - lol - have him try it on. I find this a very educational...
