I actually got to see this exhibit and it was absolutely fascinating and wonderful. I did buy the book and I highly recommend it, though it is quite costly. It has pictures of the dresses on the forms from the exhibit as well as actual photos of the dresses at the time of release on their...
I don't think of it necessarily as expressing myself. I don't really know what to call it. But I really admire the looks and craftsmanship of clothing from the past- be it 18th century or 1930s. And it's fun to play dress up ;)
I totally agree. I wasn't even aware of the program, but met a few of them this week, and they were absolutely lovely. It's so sad how they they got hurt just to boost ratings :(
Ditto that! It's a good thing I gave up ebay for the week, or else my bank account would be hurting right now lol That is beyond fabulous and worth every pretty penny, if the condition is as good as it is in that photo. I bet that dress was crazy expensive when new.
Do you happen to have a...
Thanks, gals! :)
Lindabelle, it was a long and stressful search for my wedding gown! The top part is all antique and I made the under dress for it based on the original under dress, which was so discolored and very fragile, then added lots of ruffles :) I bought it on ebay from a seller who...
Texasgirl, those are fantastic!!
I think the green one could be late 30s. I am pretty sure that's when elastic straps started, but I am not positive.
The little brown hat with the strap goes behind your head, not under the chin. I see a lot of sellers calling them "chin straps" but that wasn't...
I do admit that there was recently a negligee pattern on ebay that went for over $200, and I had my husband save and print out pics of the front and back of the envelope. :o Sure, I could make it from the picture but having the layout makes is a lot easier to copy. I actually was going to do...
Hi.
Does anyone know the history of embroidering Navy tunics with motifs? I just got one that is embroidered on the inside back with a large anchor and the cuffs have a simple wavy design. Was this popular during WWII, and are they valuable to collectors, or did I just find something that...
Wow. That's all kinds of fabulous. Super expensive. It either probably went to a fashion designer or someone with a large shopping budget...
Miss Sis, you're right! I totally forgot about that pattern company! I didn't realize they had been around that long!
They pop up every now and again, but you really don't see them barely ever. I don't have any. I just looked through an old out of print book I have and they're not listed in there, either. When I see them they're usually mid 30s and pretty high fashion. Possibly they copied the colored paper...
We recently got rid of cable, and since we never got the digital converter, we're without tv as well. I really don't miss it at all. We've got lots of movies here and we signed up with Netflix. I love it! Although I now find I veg out in front of the computer more, if that were possible. lol
For realz. Aka: That's nice that you spent 4 hours ruching all your self trim on your dress that contains 14 yards of fabric, but this gal looks hotter, so she gets the prize! lol
