No, makes sense. Sometimes I do add a little bit- say I'm selling a pattern for $3 and I'm shipping it first class. I'd have to buy a padded envelope, so I'll add a bit for my material, cause after you add up $1x how many patterns you're selling, it sucks. :eusa_doh: But a whole lot of markup...
Repost from "Show us what you made" thread, but I wanted to post a small pic and thank you guys for your advice :)
I finished the suit jacket I was working on. A short break, then on to the skirt. There's more pics and such here and here.
*bump*
I know some other gals were looking for low heel espadrilles. I just found these on overstock.com. They have them in navy and red, and there's a free shipping code on their site. And they take paypal.

We can partially blame our post office for that. When I price shipping I'm absolutely appalled at what they're charging for international shipping. And with them raising prices every year it's getting really ridiculous. I can't imagine buying stuff from the US- with the crazy shipping prices...
Totally agree- some imports aren't bad at all. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like all were. (and I edited this cause I think I was getting a little too close to political talk)
I find a lot of time with sewing that I'm more particular about my own work than even clients are. I'll...
I think about this all the time, too. We can't get away from imports and a lot of time we can't control the conditions where they come from- they're just ingrained in our society, but we can control what we do with it on our end. I admit to buying randomly a new imported shirt here or there...
I'm hoping to find more customers of similar mind, eventually! :D It's nice to hear the opinion of someone who doesn't sew. Thank you!
I have high hopes for etsy eventually. Right now on there's it's pretty much a de-stash for me of things I've collected, but I hear success stories and am...
I know!! (especially re: David's Bridal/revamp/stop staring)
If you add up the price of a vintage pattern, and even at $40 that's cheaper than custom patternmaking, plus cost of materials (let's just say $30 for fabric, zippers, thread, etc), that's already half way there and you're not even...
My mom and I took ongoing quilting classes for a while, and you're right, it's super expensive. They're so darn pretty when they're done and the fabrics are so lovely, but when you add up time and cost of fabric it's really a lot! Luckily I have a bit of a stash so when the quilting bug hits I...
I took some pics of a few of my husband's jackets for reference- thought maybe some of you might be interested as well. If anyone has any other variations on these, I would LOVE to see pictures!
Two different jackets, but compared.
At the top. One has shoulder pads which are covered and...
I know :( It's like we're a dying breed! I think I'm the youngest gal at work and the age gap is quite significant. It makes me kind of scared, actually.
I could go on another whole rant on the pay rates of people overseas, but I will resist. It's just sad all around.
Thanks, Shirin! I do actually do it as a job- half the year I work for the opera, but I'm looking for another job while they're off for summer break, so I guess it leaves time to sew for me? [huh] Gals around here don't really get how much time it takes to sew. That's something that I regret...
Thanks so much, gals!
Miss1929- yes, mine did come out big! I have a smaller head than the pattern, but this was much bigger than that! I think it's the fabric I used- it doesn't have a very tight weave. Sometime I want to make another with fabric with a little more body!
pretty faythe...
