Ok, great! Thanks, guys! I was just worried it wouldn't have as much shape if I left it unlined, but since that seems the way to go I'll do that! Thank you so much for your replies, much appreciated :)
That's a really nice jacket!
The suit I'm making will definately require hymo (hair canvas) in the front, but the linen's more stiff than drapey, but still lightweight. If I did it half-lined, how is the back of the hem finished? Is there any wiggin in the hem, or is it just finished with a...
Hi gents,
Hope you don't mind me popping my head in here. I'm making myself a suit and was wondering if there's a standard for linen 30s jackets. I know that many, both wool and linen, were half lined, but was there a general rule of thumb for linen jackets? I'm just wondering if I should do...
Bwhahaha! Evil plan worked! kidding...
But seriously, you guys have me super intimidated- all your crowd looks so perfectly 30s that I HAD to make new things!
Thanks bunches ladies for the compliments on my dress and pants! Back to the sewing machine for me...
Looking at real photos and yearbooks worked wonders for my self esteem and I realized a lot of the expectations I put on myself "beauty-wise" weren't necessarily the way everyone looked! It was a huge sigh of relief for me!
I think it's really fun to get all dolled up with the perfect makeup...
Thanks, ladies! Yes, they're the nautical inspired ones. This is the second time I've made them, and I love it! LD, they are made of lightweight denim. Super flowy and great for summer wear :)
Wow, your blog is AWESOME. I'm definately adding you to my favorites :)
Thanks so much again, ladies :) It's nearly a week later and I'm still loving it. I agree with Ricki, it does feel light and really freeing!
Inky, that's adorable! I love what you did- it looks super vintage :)
Here's some things I made this weekend, and I wrote more about them and have more pics here.
:D I feel like I got a lot done! Yay!
Thanks, Lizzie and PDX, for your comments on the video :)
My family was in Los Angeles since the 20s, which probably is why they had more relaxed clothing, except on special occasions and holidays. It's much like Widebrim and others state- it's just really relaxed here for clothing- even in the...
I'm not sure if you can see this unless you have a myspace account, but here's a montage of some of our old family videos from the 40s and early 50s. My grandpa rarely ever wore a suit in them, but I think that's just because that's the way our family was. Just like now, there's different...
Makes total sense, Pdxvintage, and I agree! When you have favorite things from different eras it's easy excuse to use, but, like I think LizzieMaine said (forgive me if I got who it was wrong) they would have updated their older look with new modifications. I have several books with chapters...
Marc, those are truly inspiring images. I like how they're not the Hollywood vision of perfection, but real people wearing real clothing. It's fun to get dolled up, to be sure, but it's nice to know there's everyday achievable period looks as well- without spending hours and hours primping...
