I'm a bit confused here. I'm not a re-enactor or even a lay authority on the subject the mantainence of rough-outs, but I could swear I've heard of dubbin or something like it being applied these boots. Applying anything (dubbin or polish) to suede sounds strange to me too, but there you go...
I have a pair of rough-outs from WPG, and I'd like to maintain them as well as possible. Many times I've heard mention of dubbing applied to the boots. What exactly was this dubbing? Is it similar to mink oil? Also, what is the desired finish one hopes to achieve from use of the dubbing? Should...
Regarding profile and hard-boiled fiction.
Hey Folks,
Your peer pressure has inspired me to complete my damn profile and be a better online citizen.
Other hard-boiled writers (albeit not detective fiction) you may want to check out are David Goodis (DARK PASSAGE, CASSIDY'S GIRL, BLACK...
I have a minor dillema here with some pants and the wearing of a belt. I love wearing a belt. It's something to stick my thumbs in and hang my keychain on, as well as holding my trousers up. As many of you know, most jeans and workpants before WWII had waist adjusters on the back of the...
I like that bag! Sporty as all hell. I can picture you carrying it, perhaps with a folded trenchcoat laying across the top, checking in to a fancy hotel. Real Leslie Howard.
Wells put, Paddy! I've often thought the same. Just to back your theory up, a year or so ago I remember reading an eBay desciption of beautifully decorated but trashed B-10 jacket. Apparently it had been used by the vet's wife as SKI JACKET for twenty years! ...groan...
Regarding "Happy Bottom"
feltfan: "I suspect the Japanese artist had the wool pulled over
his eyes on this one, though." Remember what Felix Unger said about assuming things...
Actually Happy Bottom was a real plane. In fact, the plane was christened by Edward G. Robinson who named it after...
Yeah, John's is still there, but it's really turned into a tourist trap the quality took a dive, and unfortunately Lombardi's has expanded and withered too. But there's still the old Patsy's up in East Harlem. Hot dog, is that an old-timey joint!
I've never had a jacket painted, but I'm itching to, and I'm curious how well they generally hold up with regular wear. Of course I've seen originals and the results vary widely. Does the consistency of modern paint used on jackets differ from that of the 1940's. Also, would the paint on cloth...
What are your ten favorite Noir films?
Mine (in no particular order): NIGHTMARE ALLEY, THE THIRD MAN, OUT OF THE PAST, DETOUR, SUNSET BOULEVARD, DARK PASSAGE, DOUBLE INDEMNITY, THE SET UP, A DOUBLE LIFE, and ODD MAN OUT.
How I wish I could erase my memory and see them all for the first time...
Jerome's work is a real pleasure to look at. I have a B-10 I'd really like painted.
Do you know what kind of rates he charges?
Check out this Japanese cat's work, he's pretty good too...
Your taste in cheesecake is impeccable. And yes, Peter Luger's is the be-all-end-all of old-time steakhouses. Best steak in the world!
Regarding egg creams, there are very few joints left in the city to get an authentic one. My faves are at Gem Spa at St.Marks Pl and Second Ave, and Ray's on A...
Yeah. I've have a couple of originals and they are nasty, scarred up, and grainy as hell. I love 'em. The only one of my repro hides that bares a truly strong resemblance to the originals is the Aero 1756, just the right shade of seal, dry, and GRIZZLY.
Dropped on the floor.
I've worked nights in bars for years. After the last stragglers are tossed there's ALWAYS scads of lost and abandoned goodies to be had. Bags of coke or dope, money from loose change to c-notes, pills, half-full packs of smokes, cell phones, umbrellas, sunglasses...
