My only reservation with midnight blue evening wear is that many tailors seem to have trouble finding midnight blue satin or grosgrain with which to trim it. Consequently, you end up with blue cloth and black trimmings, which IMO looks awful.
Visconde, if you're going with midnight blue...
I tried one on in Macy's tonight. They didn't have a large, only a medium, which was too small for me. The medium is marked 39-41. Interestingly, I confirmed something I thought I saw in Fletch's pictures--the chest on this cut is larger than the rest of the jacket, almost like a drape cut...
SOLD pending payment--Came across this suit on Ebay recently, and hoped it would fit me. Sadly, it doesn't--and I'm disappointed, as it's a gem.
It's from the late '30s or early '40s, I'm pretty sure, due to the styling and details. No labels that would help to date it more accurately than...
Yes, I've also found $50 to be an average price for a resole. Prices vary a bit by location. My cobbler charges $17 for new heels, $35 for half soles and heels, and about $55 for a complete resole.
As to the leather/rubber issue, it's mainly a matter of preference. I prefer a rubber or...

Chasseur is right, this is an evening dress coat, not a cutaway. As to date, it's hard to say because this style stayed relatively consistent for decades and decades. If I had to guess, I'd say '30s because of the lack of breast pocket and the shape of the lapels. But I could be very wrong...
I came across this great pair of English-made tan pebble-grain wingtips on Ebay, but sadly they just don't fit me. They were made by Alan McAfee, a legendary English shoemaker, for Oviatt's--which, as we know, was perhaps "The GREATEST Menswear Store Ever!" Oviatt's only sold the finest of...
I found an excellent post by Manton at AAAC on the subject of balance that explains it as well or better than I could:

I was just browsing through the various vintage categories, looking at the suits. I do that every now and then, especially since I've noticed that many of the great-vintage-suits-for-ridiculously-low-prices that Marc and others have posted here have been those that were poorly listed.
I...
Just won this for a song. Am I right in thinking it may be older than the '50s suit it was listed as?
