School's been very rough lately. I've had a lot to deal with the past couple of weeks (two essays were due, a recent midterm, short answers posted online), so I haven't quite been able to arrive at a point I'd feel more comfortable about my progress. I've got a midterm for my Modernist Fiction...
Although I appreciate the styles, I'm not a vintage "purist" by any means, but I suppose I can be considered for the following categories at this point:
General Fashion Connoisseurs: Those who possess or strive to possess above-average knowledge of general fashion.
General Fashion...
Since Le Samourai was mentioned, I just wanted to chime in.
This is probably my favorite "trench coat movie," everything about it was very stylish (Jean-Pierre Melville is also a favorite director of mine). I don't own anything like this yet, although I do have the hat (light grey, wide black...
I should be more serious about it, but twice a week on average, sometimes three or four, I do an hour's worth of workouts on that day, usually hiking and weightlifting. I sometimes check a bodybuilding forum for advice.
I actually didn't, and I only wear ties occasionally there (3 or 4 times a month), mostly for church. Usually, I wear a leather jacket (either G-1 or Wested Raiders) or a brown James Dean style windbreaker. I am considering the possibility of sometimes wearing ties with the leather jackets...
My Classics professor wore a vintage tie today. One of the students said "Nice tie," and he told us a bit about it; he had it since high school, and it was one of the few ties he kept around his closet from that time. It was a narrow 1 3/4 inch looking striped tie from probably the late '50s or...
Hi Jlee: Thanks, I didn't ever trim the brim on it, but it is a little bit curled up at present. In my opinion it makes the hat look less large on me than having the brim swoop down, but I like that style too. The crown height is roughly 4 1/2 inches.
Does anybody own a Pro 30X beaver hat by Akubra? It's one of their newer models, and probably came out about a year ago or more. I'm curious about this hat, because I was wondering if it was supposed to be stiff and shellacked like typical American western hats, or softer like their usual hats...
I don't consider myself a particularly greedy or rude person (of course I'm wrong some of the time, it's a part of human nature to commit ill will against others), but I hope I don't ever end up like Fred C. Dobbs did in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre; pursuing some sort of fortune or goal in...
Yep, that would be me. I'm one of those homburg-to-fedora converters. It happens to be the hat I wear the most, though. I'm definitely getting my 120 dollar's worth of value from it now. I remember wearing it less as an actual homburg, the Stetson St. Regis kind.
I have heard of some cases of...
It's not an awful haircut, per se, but in my opinion, it can give others the wrong message about you... I think it's a look that's too severe for me, which is why I have my sides longer.
I think the early 70s will be interesting, as we'll see how they handle the changing styles of the characters, some more subtle changes than others I would imagine, and almost undoubtedly a reference to the Vietnam War and other tensions surrounding that period (Watergate too?). Right now...
Weird question, but do any of your hats smell noticeably after getting wet in the rain? I'm pretty sure I've only noticed that particularly strong smell with my vintage Stetson St. Regis (late '40s or '50s), my Akubra Federation IV if I remember didn't have too much of one. To describe it a...
Can somebody tell me what kind of hairstyle this is? It doesn't look like a usual pompadour, but is it still one? This picture isn't from the '50s, but I think I've seen a very similar style before.

Thank you, both of you. I guess my jacket could be '60s then, that's fine. Anyway, I think a brown McGregor jacket lends itself more to my style (I wear lots of earth tones) than a red colored one would, although I'd certainly wear a red original if I could have found one for a good deal...
