This is basically what I'm trying to do, especially the "modern does the '60s" look, but I'm not planning on having exaggeratedly narrow lapels or ties. There's a lot of stuff that's tasteless in modern fashion, but I agree with the trim-fitting (not to be confused with tight fitting) clothes...
Oxford bags; they're very baggy, and I highly doubt they would harmoniously go with the rest of my style. To me at least, they're about as tacky as wide bellbottoms from the 1970s. I'm not particularly a fan of the wide pant aesthetic in general, but it could work with vintage 1930s and '40s suits.
I think lately I'm still preferring a width of around 2 inches to 2 3/8 inches for a fedora. Moderate brims that are slightly narrow. My favorite fedora is 2 1/8 inches wide, although I cut it that way myself, it was originally bound and curled up (a homburg) at about 2 1/2 inches or more.
I don't own one, but I would wear a dinner jacket to that event if I had such means. It might be seen as over-the-top, but have fun and know you are keeping a tradition alive. Were you thinking of black (or midnight blue), or white/cream?
Is there a pomade that has the hold of Dax Wave & Groom, but doesn't change the color of one's hair? I'm fine with the shine, but I have naturally blond hair, so if I use a lot of stuff, it looks dark brown. Overall though, Dax Wave & Groom is probably the best hair product I've used, it has in...
Just finished volume 1 of my rental, The Saint TV series. It's one of my favorite shows, and Netflix is offering it again for the first time since who knows how long.
Age 22, here. I'm very passionate about all sorts of history, and I've been meaning to try to develop my own style since about three years ago. I can't consider my style particularly "vintage," per se, but influenced by the classics. Kind of related to the Ivy League look or trad, but a bit more...
Great thread. I respect the dedication it takes to carry off wearing fully or mostly vintage clothing, whether from a point of aesthetics, or if one is into reenactment and history. In any event, it's a hobby. Generally, I appreciate (but not own) a wide range of styles associated with any...
Is it even possible to get new suits under super 90s these days? I own only one suit, a modern Land's End super 90s one, but that's about the lowest I've seen for sale anywhere. Any idea where a super 60s or 70s count wool suit might be sold, apart from vintage?
That was fun, thanks. I got through it the right way on the first try, but I did end up finding out what the alternate endings were. Don Draper's so full of himself, but he's also one of the cool and suave TV characters...
I know that this isn't related to the intent of the thread poster, but in your opinion, do you think some of these Victorian style waistcoats could work with more modern suits as well? I think many of them look nice, but maybe it calls for the whole look in general.
You know, I really would like to see consistently nicer characters make an appearance on the show, if they introduce new ones. They all seem to be morally bankrupt. Obviously, everyone has problems, but some people appear to have more integrity and morals than others, and this is not what we've...
Not the last film I've seen, but I've just purchased off of ebay a rare Region 0 version of The Last Adventure (Les Aventuriers). I've seen a lot of the film on YouTube, but not all of it, and this DVD should have English subtitles. I'm looking forward to that, and I'll write a review of it later.
Now that's just something you wouldn't see these days on a President. Not just the hat, but also the style of sport coat. Has Obama (or Bush) worn anything that bold in a public appearance? For a politician, that's out there, although stylish.
Flat Foot Floey and Gin&Tonics: Thanks, it's not a suit I actually plan to have tailored. It's a cheap Land's End "Year'rounder" suit from the suit separates (pants and jacket). I chose the tailored jacket, and the flat front, traditional fit pants (their tailored chinos are too skin-tight for...
Lately, I've taken to getting my cut longer on the sides, and a shorter on top than the 6+ length it used to be (very hard to comb a quiff with that for me). Hairs tapered a bit on the sides, but the top length is more like 3 1/2 inches.
Side:
There's also a taper in the back.
I know this is a modern suit without much style, but it's my first wool suit (I used to wear a black polyester suit, and I have thankfully since lost too much weigh to ever wear it again). I bought it from Land's End a few months ago, and I'm in no position to return it, so it's mine until it...
^ The next time I fly, which will be to Hawaii, I'm thinking about just wearing a safari shirt and khakis. I'm also bringing along a straw hat by Sunbody. I want to try to make an effort to look more presentable than the general public, too, but I don't really hold it against them. Come to think...
