What? People still read? Is this for real?
What great news! What a great thread! It comes at an opportune time, as there is a "no tv" rule in the house because my wife is studying for some exams. I needed something to whet my appetite for some good literature.
I recently finished...
Ah, that'd be cool. A sword... but I'd have to find a vintage one that goes with my '30s/'40s fixation!
Methinks the wife (and the police) would say "no"... :p
I'm work in IT, and what you describe is very common to this field. The majority of us dress the part, but in my experience I have seen that there are also many IT folks that feel they are rebels and refuse to conform to The Man's standards. Others are just plain lazy, while others are...
Smooth! I liked that solution...
The problem is I always think of snappy things like that after the dust settles and I'm far away and removed from the situation.
My dad is in law enforcement, and he knows all sorts of cool moves like that. He's had quite a few altercations and he has...
Google Earth cool, but not everywhere has the resolution like you see in Matt's pics.
For example, you can't zoom in to our house in Balbriggan, Ireland - but you can see high detail in London. Even Dublin is a bit blurry.
Granny's house in Focsani, Romania is not visible whatsoever...
I didn't know that they were kids, so I let 'em rip. When I did see that they were minors, I didn't stop. I was really, really angry - not only that someone tried to nick my lid, but also that they nearly poked me eyeball out and scratched me with their grubby fingers...
Last night I was strolling down Upper Street in Islington with some friends, having just left Bierodrome after a few pints, when some drunken kid (14 - 16 years tops) tried to snatch me hat.
There were about 4 of them, and when I heard the word "hat" slurred by one of 'em it tipped me off...
Hello!
Does anyone know if the '40s/50s Haband ties were rayon or silk?
I've recently acquired a really cool Haband tie, which is either from the '40s or '50s. It has a wee stain on the bottom, as if the previous owner dipped it in his soup or something.
I've seen instructions for...
Interesting info regarding Hiroo Ononda and Shoichi Yokoi and how they actually survived all that time here.
I wonder if I would be able to do it? To be honest I hope I never find out!
Very neat pic - I wish it were real...
I too hate clutter and bulging pockets. I too went with the Motorola RAZR because it is very thin. My work phone is a massive piece of junk, a Siemens SP65. I keep it in my bag/briefcase otherwise it ruins the lines of my suit! :p
I think I will...
Jeez... you all have had some good finds (or either just missed out).
The grandfather of a good friend of mine had several houses in NJ, on the waterfront. This guy had turned a bit loopy at some point during his life and had never, ever thrown anything "useful" out. He was a man of some...
I have a Tonak (?) hat. I picked it up in Bucuresti. It is a low-crown fedora. The felt is very soft yet holds whatever you style it as quite well.
I think it actually shrank though, because it is rather tight compared to when I bought it (unless my head grew).
If you're referring to me and my slightly off-topic rant... I had lots of time on my hands today, and I was referring to the people at large - not just loungers.... :p
Hear hear (hmm... or is it "here here")?
Good call... In this day and age of automated spellcheckers there should be no excuse for poor spelling. I do understand some folks are dyslexic or something along those lines, but still... There really is no excuse!
That being said - I'm sure I'm...
I went into Locke & Co. a few months back to get a hat box... one for shipping. The manager was very nice and said that he'd give me one for a fiver. Not too bad, as the cardboard was so strong that it was a step away from being a wooden crate!
Every time I've gone in they've been helpful -...
