    New Straw Hat

Bought a new white cuenca straw hat (Stetson Frontier) which was shipped from Amazon. Says the hats are handmade in Equador. It's got a 3 1/4 inch brim and a 4'' crown. I will post pics in a bit. Question, I was wearing it right after I took it out of the box, should I have washed it before...

    Question about Indiana Jones

Just a question of accuracy. The 4th Indy movie took place in 1957 and in the town scenes and the scenes where Indy is boarding the train, nearly every man is still wearing a hat of some kind. Would this have been accurate by '57?

Why do I hate the 1970s so much?

Does anyone have any articles from the 60s or 70s which relate to the shock over men growing their hair long?

    Question about Old Hat

Hey Bought a felt fedora second hand--and then during the summer it stayed on a pin up on the wall for months. I'm sure in that time on the wall it probably got dusty/dirty/things might've crawled on it...What should I do to clean it and make it fit for wearing?

    T-Shirts in the 1930s - 1940s

That's my great uncle. I never met him, as he died in 1979 and I was born in 1990. As you can see, he tried to keep up with the times--you can also see he had long sideburns.

Fedora to accompany jeans and t-shirt

Problem Here's the thing: I love wearing hats; I love fedoras---but I also love dressing casually. I don't think a t-shirt, jeans and a fedora really go together but I want to wear my hat.

    T-Shirts in the 1930s - 1940s

Basically yeah. I also like movies showing older folks embracing the younger culture. It's interesting to me to see how members of the older generation dealt with the craziness of the younger generation. For example: The first picture is a member of my family in 1949. The second...

    T-Shirts in the 1930s - 1940s

I love sociology, and the whole generation gap of the 60s-70s really interests me. Not only that, but I find it really fascinating how the way people had generally dressed for generations (hats, formal wear, etc) almost totally disappeared within the course of about ten years. Like, I look at a...

    T-Shirts in the 1930s - 1940s

Films That Show Early Jeans, T-Shirt Wear Hey-- Was wondering if there are any films made in the 50s or 60s which showed the slow changes away in dress--like films made in that era which showed the first people in jeans or t-shirts, or guys with longer hair; contrasted with the older...

    T-Shirts in the 1930s - 1940s

When did T-Shirts first begin to get popular; and would you say they ever caught on with the GI Generation (1910-1926)? Why did so many members of the GI Generation not wear hats, when their older brothers and parents did? It seems like hat wearing disappeared overnight. and lastly, do any of...

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

Is this really how a lot of America dressed in the early 60s? The reason I ask is I look at old films of my family--My mom's father was a second generation Italian-American, blue collar guy, WWII vet, who never wore a hat and always wore grey slacks and a polo shirt. It just seems...

    Any good 60s-70s forums?

Hey Are there any good forums like this one, but for the 60s, 70s and 80s? Ones that discuss the mindset and clothes of the time, the way this forum does for the 30s and 40s?

    Trend toward informality

At what point can we say that the trend towards informal dress which marked a great deal of the 20th century began? At what point did you see it in your family or in your neighborhood? I'm very interested in sociology and hope you wouldn't mind talking about this. I would say the generations...
