I don't really know. Didn't watch the show...but from the stills I've looked at his BD certainly seems to have that greener look of Canadian battledress.
I've been checking. Apparently Canadian BD was made in quite a few more sizes than the British version. A soldier could get a better...
As far as I know British troops were never issued Canadian battledress but if they could scrounge them, they did. Canadian battledress was somewhat greener in shade and was made of finer quality material. In addition, while the Brits adopted an economy model with exposed buttons, Canadian...
Nice finds BR. I have a Tootal Grosvenor myself. I find it a bit too stiff for my liking but the pattern looks very late '60's to me. That second Tootal is a beauty.
You're absolutely right about the cream paisley scarf, Two Types. I was lucky to find it.
A quick question for you: is Sammy still producing scarves? I found a solid maroon Sammy scarf today (Tricel fabric). It's in excellent shape.
A couple of nice finds lately.
A striking rayon Forsyth:
And a very nice cream coloured scarf. It's not labeled but it's made of that lovely, heavy, soft rayon that tends to indicate a nice older scarf. It's the only cream coloured one I have...so far!
Found both of these on the same...
D'Oh! I was just going through this thread to have another look at all the great scarves and discovered that most of my own photos have been replaced by ugly white boxes!
Must've happened when I decided to organize my photobucket photos into separate folders. Serves me right for trying to...
We're No Angels. How can you beat a movie with Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov, Aldo Ray and Basil Rathbone? It may become my favourite Christmas movie, although it's never presented as such.
Nice one, Stefano. I find most of my scarves at thrift shops, usually in the women's scarf section. It would seem that the fine people doing the sorting and pricing in these shops have decided that if it isn't wool and plaid, it must be a women's scarf! I rarely find a nice vintage men's...
Good idea for a thread. I change my avatar often and usually just use a photo of myself.
My current one, however, is a still featuring Raymond Massey in 'The Shape of Things to Come'. Massey was born and raised in Toronto and did quite well as an actor south of the border. His brother...
I have a lot of hats from a lot of makers (nothing custom, though): Borsalino, Stetson, Akubra, Knox, Biltmore, Dobbs, Christies, Dunn, etc. I have one Bates fedora. It's excellent quality, well made, and with lovely thick soft felt, akin to my higher quality Borsalinos. One of my favourite...
I like that Italian white scarf, Annixter. Good find.
I've been having some good luck lately.
My first two polka dot scarves...they just don't seem very common here. This one is dark brown rayon with no label.
This one is brown with a bit more red in it. It's silk and made by a...
I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in grade 7 and was with my class in a church basement. We were having phys ed (Catholic grade school, no gym) and doing jumping jacks when another student entered, obviously upset, and spoke to the teacher. The teacher made the announcement about...
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll keep my eyes open for that one as well. Grisly though the story may be, I had difficulty putting the book down.
I found a copy of Hatless Jack by Neil Steinberg. I'll tackle that next.
