G'day everyone ...
Thought I'd let you know that, as part of the War And Remembrance programming on the TV over the weekend, I saw an amazing documentary entitled "Dieppe Uncovered" - and it's well worth a watch to anyone interested in WW2.
It details the lengthy research undertaken by a Canadian historian who, with recently released information that was previously withheld under the 70-Year Rule, has all-new insight in to the disastrous Dieppe raid of 1942, which cost the Canadians so much, along with the British.

More than that, I shan't say - as I don't wish to spoil anything for the you - but suffice to say, I think it's required viewing, the new evidence is compelling and very well researched, and it renders any previous books on the subject completely obsolete.

Here's the link to it:

Scroll down below the trailer and you can see an interview with the producer - and if you click on the Special/Now Playing box, you can watch it in full !
You just have to sit through 2/3 commercials and you're away. Don't click and advance though - you'll have to endure 2/3 commercials again.

It's an hour and eight minutes very well spent.
Enjoy !

Would have been great to watch it. Too bad the web site won't let me. "Geographic restriction" it says.

That's too bad ... keep an eye out for it in your area as it'll be on at some point in the near future, I'm sure ... and it's well worth a watch.
To me, it's just too bad that so many of the brave men who were there and survived, died in old age feeling bitter and angry about it all. I suspect they'd have felt differently for having seen/known about this.
And as a teaser, amongst the usual names that are associated with the planning of the raid (Earl Mountbatten for one), the historian has dug up another new name - one that has escaped the association under the 70-Year-Rule - until now. You'll be most surprised - and it's a household name too.
