Solitude doesn't disturb me but I tend to view dinner as a social occasion. I dislike eating alone whether in a restaurant or at home.
I certainly have no problem attending a concert or performance solo.
They made a film version of "Royal Flash" in 1975 with Malcolm McDowell as Flashman. I have seen it but I can't say that it made much of an impression. McDowell didn't seem to work as Flashman.
I've been reading the Flashman papers since the series started...a big fan. F and the Great Game...
I'm a fan of the Longmire series of books. Haven't read that one yet.
Just finished "A Painter's Country" by Canadian artist A. Y. Jackson. An autobiography.
Don't forget: a self-confessed cad, womanizer, cheat and coward! Quite a good hand at languages, though. The Flashman Papers are one of my absolute favourite series of books.
The passing of the last Mac-Pap...a sad moment. Paivio described his capture and imprisonment in William Beeching's Canadian Volunteers: Spain 1936-1939. I was lucky enough to find a copy of this book last year, signed by two Mac-Pap veterans.
Terrific blog, Two Types! My colleagues and I were fed a steady diet of British films while growing up...everything from The Ladykillers to Cockleshell Heroes. I've always loved them. Stanley Baker as Bond, uh? Interesting.
The latest dial phone I have is a Northern Electric model 500 dated 1980. I suspect dials went out of production shortly after that. This one is my preferred phone:
Some more lucky finds this week. This one is by Brill:
And this one has no label but it is made of a thick, heavy rayon and is quite wide. I get the impression that it is an older one.
Ah...my old associate, Dinsdale, still has nightmares about Norman.
Just watched all seasons of The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. The last season really could have used a giant hedgehog, but season 2 is still terrific.
The things you can find in thrift shops can really be amazing, JP. (As anyone who follows this thread knows!)
I looked around to see if the rest of the uniform was in the store (pushing my luck, of course). No dice.
Still, can't complain.
Found some really nice 30s/40s scarves this week as...
This one really amazed me. My wife found this in a local thrift shop mixed in with the women's straw hats. It's a pre-WW2 officer's patrol dress forage cap complete with all the insignia for the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, including the original gilt and silver cap badge. It is, in...
A top hat is one of the only style of hat I have not yet found so I can't help you much there but I've stretched quite a few fedoras. A two size stretch (from 7 1/4 to 7 1/2) is a bit risky with a fedora. The hat can easily be distorted...that's aside from the probable damage to the sweatband...
The seam is a new one for me as well.
The Sammy is Tricel fabric. I much prefer the softer, heavier rayon but I have difficulty passing up any older scarf!
The pale green paisley is rayon and it's the first one I've found by Joxford.
Spectacular scarves, as always, Two Types!
Had some luck this week...
A pale green paisley rayon by Joxford. The label says it's crease resistant but it's not that resistant!
This one is a Sammy. Reversible it seems.
And finally I found this Tootal today.
The...
