Wolfman Jack,
Could it be Spam-Am War vintage? I doubt it. My guess is it was a nice Stetson western hat that a New York State Trooper modified for official use. The purple ribbon is a NY State Trooper adornment. My best guess for what it's worth. Lack of brim stitching, venting punches...
Douglas,
Close your eyes and imagine being able to order to your heart's content at those prices! I know what I'd get. Thank you for the fantasy fuel.

Didn't use an iron. After tacking the ribbon to the crown as reasonably snug as I could, I steamed the ribbon area and it caused the crown and ribbon to adhere nicely, and tightened it to the crown as it appears in the photos, after I applied a little reverse pressure from inisde the crown...

Stoney,
Having done a few conversions, some with brim binding stitched by hand, I think you'll agree it was worth the time and effort! Very well done!

Speaking as a civilian, to me, law enforcement personnel wearing headgear communicates the serious nature of their calling. I personally prefer police who look "official" and to some degree, intimidating. It doesn't have to be a Campaign Hat, but headgear that carries the formality of their...
I understand, and one of the reasons I prefer historical military caps is that it honors those who served in one very special way...that their service would not be forgotten. "For it is the curse of men...to forget." If ever you get a chance to post pictures of those caps, before, or after...
