first off... congratulations!!!
as mentioned above, i would be careful of things that can be safety hazards. while some people probably thing they're overblown, i don't think you can be TOO careful with babies/small children. i spend a lot of time with small children and am always amazed at...
right now i'm listening to Morrissey. earlier it was Harry James.
marlow, i haven't yet seen MS play, but i think they're scheduled for the upcoming lindy exchange!
hmm, maybe i'll experiment a little with the moisture. unfortunately there's not enough showing to photograph! it was interesting to learn that my bedroom was finished in 1913 though - the house was built in 1897 but i had a feeling my room was a *little* newer than that.
the smell of my grandma's house at christmas from when i was a child. i have two poinsettia-shaped candles that still hold this smell, and occasionally i get a whiff of it when i find vintage christmas stuff at thrift stores. i cannot put my finger on it. but man, what a happy smell for me!
wow, this is AWESOME. thank you for posting!
my bedroom closets (kind of unfinished in spots) have 1913 newspapers visible in some spots - they were used as insulation. unfortunately they would rip if i tried to remove them though.
today i am sitting in my basement, having a vintage sale!
i'm wearing:
- (was) deadstock jantzen wool sweater from the late 40s
- modern, vintage-style laura ashley wool cardigan
- 70s linen-look polyester skirt
- sock it to me striped kneesocks
- (were) deadstock late-40s wedgie loafers
i concur! the third (and most complicated) thing i ever made was a top from a 1941 blank pattern. i used a vintage "how to sew" book, which assumed the use of blank patterns and that helped A LOT. as for belt buckles (along with buttons on the original card), i buy cute vintage ones when i find...
my absolutely favorite sandwich comes from the red and black cafe in portland. it's called a "TLT" or "TLP" - tempeh bacon, lettuce and either tomato or roasted pepper, with herbed veganaise on sourdough. mmmm.
another favorite grilled sandwich that i like to make myself is marinated grilled...
snookie, i haven't done it in ages, but years ago (my hair was at least shoulder length at the time) i managed to pull something like this off. after taking out a tight pincurl set, i played around with piling the front pieces up and pinning them down where i wanted them. somehow they managed to...
noooo, that's horrid!!! maybe it'll still turn up. something similar happened with a purchase of mine a couple years ago and it turned up the day before i moved to a different state. it's such a beautiful dress so i hope you get it!!
the book "Blueprints of fashion" has the best list in the back - it tells which pattern numbers came out in which year! i have the 40s one, there is also a 50s book as well that i don't have, i'd assume it has a similar listing for 50s patterns.
maybe someone knows of an online resource...
here's the thing though about creatively revamped clothing... most of the stuff that ends up reused in this matter is literally on it's way to the landfill, to be shredded and used as insulation or what-have-you, or to be resold for a small profit in africa. i know several people who make and...
