Mine ended up just under 5 1/2" tall, which is okay for all my hats. A little taller wouldn't hurt, but I had to keep mine under 6, so I could use my bandsaw to cut it in half.
Best,

I have not removed the ribbon on any hat I've stretched yet. I figure the wet ribbon will stretch out as far as the wet sweat. I have not gone more than one size yet, though.

When I've been locked in the studio for weeks, doing little but staring at the drafting table, I get a little blue, and buying junk online cheers me up. I admit it, I go a little bid-crazy!
So, this syndrome led to me putting in a bid on these "Beauties".
Don't know how old they...
Thanks!
Hey... I could call it Tim! That's also the name of one of my favorite albums!
I wish I could remember what Art calls this color. It might be Sahara? I did try to color correct this picture somewhat, but I don't see color real well, so I can't really be trusted. I'll post more...
Eek!
I guess that explains the even larger Borso up now, with a Buy-It-Now of $400.
It's funny, I went to look at these auctions, anticipating that they would be really well-listed. They really weren't that spectacular... pretty good photos, and so-so descriptions.
What can you do...
Wow!
Great hats lately! D-Man, nice look overall, as always.
I was sporting my Art Fawcett creation today... a very versatile number that I wish I had given a super-cool name when I got it!

Looks awesome on you! I know, from visiting the store myself, that the felt is first-rate, too.
By the way, as a comics geek (I write and draw them for a living), I love your name. As an art geek, I love your avatar!
Best,
Anj
If you want the cattleman crease and if you are a normal oval, I think the modern OR is a fine hat.
If you want a different crease, or if you a long oval, I would recommend the Campdraft. The felt is a little heavier, and it is also rather stiff, but it can be loosened up to fit you...
Thanks, J.T.. Boodles, it's because of J.T.'s expertise that I feel confident enough to dunk my hats. I simply dunk them in a cold water bath in the kitchen sink. Sometimes I remove the liner... sometimes not. Of course, I treat the sweat liberally with Lexol first.
You're not going to...
Dark Gray/Brown Cavanagh with Cavanagh Edge!
I have to confess... I stole this thing on ebay last week. I think this is the best deal I've gotten on the 'bay, outside of a couple of buy-it-nows. I don't know how a nice Cavanagh in 7 1/2 went for $26, but I'm grateful that it did!
It showed...
Just won one!
I just snagged this one on the bay.
I'm hoping it's the Canadian version of the 302. Looks that way to me, but I am far from an expert. I like to tinker, so I was looking for one that needed a little work, but nothing too extensive.
I hope it's nice in person...
I read through the block-making thing, and while I admire the results, I think it would be easier for me to use my lathe and then glue a piece in the middle. I don't like sanding!
Anyway... my previous statement stands... great job on your hat!!!

Penn-Stuart "Hand Blocked" Light Gray
I was talking about this hat in my hat stretcher thread, but thought I should probably post it here, as well.
I won this last week, and really wasn't sure what I was getting. But, I've been wanting a light gray with a wide brim, and this certainly fit...
I went ahead and tackled a pretty big job next... this Penn-Stuart hat I acquired the other day in an ebay auction. I wasn't really sure what I'd be getting. I had never heard of the brand, and it looked a little rough, but I've been wanting a light gray with a big brim. This is, at 3 inches...
You may be able to see it in a picture below. There's not a lot to it... a piece of 2x4 is screwed to each of the clamp jaws. A few scraps of plywood sit atop those (glued and screwed), and then the block halves are screwed to the plywood. It all gives a little... flexing inward slightly...
