That is really a great looking hat! and a nice La Gloria Cubana?

I picked this one up a little over a week ago on e-bay. It was made in Italy, I'm guessing mid 50s to early 60s based on the liner and sweatband. It was full of dust and the fur was pretty matted down. I cleaned it up and flattened the 1 7/8 brim while adding a slight curl as viewed from the front. I added the turkey feathers and Hard Rock Atlanta pin. It turned out to be a pretty fun hat to wear
and looks lie a new one. I've never seen a hat this stingy before that had a wind trolley installed.

Did you just push it right through the ribbon and felt? Can you feel it?
I can't even tell the pin is on the one Art did for me!

Thanks RBH, I really like the pin as well. I fixed a brown Stetson stingy up just like this, except it's a New Orleans HR pin, for my 5 yr old grand nephew. He likes wearing his rock and roll hat lol.

He was really thrilled when he saw that I fixed this one up like his. Now we can wear them out together when were doing guy stuff.

IndyCop.. The HR Pins that I have on the hats are the larger ones that have a pin and clasp that run parallel to the front of the pin , rather than a clutch back as the smaller ones that I have do. I just pin them trough the ribbon and about 1/2 way through the felt underneath. Nothing comes into the inside of the hat. Do you have a picture of the one from Art? I bet it looks awesome.

If you look for true experts in matters of panama hats at the FL forum those guys are PanamaBob, (he is dealing with thousands of Montecristi and Cuenca), Vilhat (Fred Belinsky-also a wholesale trader of Panamas) or Art Fawcett (he blocks a lot of panama hats). There are also the collectors of vintage hats.

I'll contact those sources to see what they think. Yeah, I wasn't thinking it is from the 1800s - in fact, I would think that a company wouldn't draw a bunch of attention to the year of their establishment until they've been around a while already. I did see some storefront window display photos, on this site, from the early 1900s with similar hats and pricing so it might end up one of the senior citizen hats in my humble collection, but I'll see what others say.

WOW Gene!!! That is a great panama! I love the pinch you put in it also.
You just cant hardly find a hat with the abundent crown that your hat seems to have.
What is the brim width and crown height /

Good questions...let's see:
Brim comes to 2"
Crown measures at 4-14" at front pinch and closer to 4-3/4" at heighest sides.
Not usually the proportions I go for in a felt (I usually like a bigger brim and less crown volume) but for the Panama it's close to perfect. I've also got a "Supernatural" from the "Ecuadorian Panama Hat Company - New York" which is very old and very cool. It has the bigger brim so now I'm covered both ways!

Man, those are great hats! Especially like the custom with the badge.

Hey, I'm a new guy so I don't wanna' make waves but it seems this approach of everyone posting new hats to one thread kinda makes it a little tuff to do justice to discussion on each of them as they come in.
I'm starting to feel a little like I'm trying to monopolize it with my new/old Panama straw and the quest for info about it.
Then, I see other posts and want to get off onto tangents about them because they are all so cool!

Oh well; My two cents as they say.

The pleats on that ribbon really set it off and I love the badge-pin as well.
Like every Art Fawcett hat I've seen, it's a beauty. I'm sure you really enjoy wearing it.

The ribbon is a representation of the twin towers.
Art can really come up with the detail!!

That's right, that WAS you. I checked this out by doing a search which led me to your first post about this hat. The thing I'm most jealous of is the box! Here's a peak at mine. I just love the darn thing.

Dark Gray/Brown Cavanagh with Cavanagh Edge!

I have to confess... I stole this thing on ebay last week. I think this is the best deal I've gotten on the 'bay, outside of a couple of buy-it-nows. I don't know how a nice Cavanagh in 7 1/2 went for $26, but I'm grateful that it did!

It showed up with a pretty bashed bash. I brushed it a little, dunked it, put it on my stretcher to take it up about a half size, and put in this new bash. I love it now! You can see the $25 price tag under the brim. This may be the nicest hat I own, at the time of its sale. This lush, tall Cavangh sweat band gave my stretcher a run for it's money, but I got the job done.

I love the bow, with the different finish on the ribbon right there at the end. I still like a bound brim best, I think, but this Cavanagh Edge is lovely. The color is tough to nail down... it was sold as black (part of the reason for the good deal?), but it's really a dark gray with a hint of dark chocolate.

Crown- 4 5/8, as bashed
Ribbon- 1 7/8
Brim- 2 1/4

A Cavanagh in my golden orb size when for that sweet song and I missed it! Confound me luck, but praise be to yours! That's a fine and lovely fedora of all but inimitable quality that looks quite fine on you. So far as my sensibilities are concerned, its proportions match your head beautifully.
