To clarify my favorite suit fabric, what I really mean is "pick on pick," especially in grey tones. The suit Cary Grant is wearing in the picture is a good example:
My suit is cheap quality, but it basically looks like this.
Hi Hamilcar Barca, that's a nice suit regardless, but you mentioned your pants are a little short. One of my suits has the same length on me; it was made in the 1960s for my shorter grandfather. How would one go about lengthening the pant length? If you know what it entails, I would appreciate...
I had just seen The Untouchables, and I thought it was great. Great cast, with Sean Connery, Robert De Niro, and Kevin Costner. I like Ennio Morricone's soundtrack, too. It isn't period accurate, but fun to listen to, and even reminiscent of Once Upon a Time in the West and The Sicilian Clan.
Those look like great ties, Anthony Jordan. I'm a big fan of red ties or ties with red being the dominant color. Three of the ties I ordered off of ebay shown on the last page are red. Would anyone like to help me clarify their time period? I think the knit tie might be more modern.
Today it was a light blue polo shirt, off-white chinos, and at times, a brown 1950s McGregor Anti-Freeze jacket. I may wear my mid-grey suit and a tie to church on sunday.
What kind of homburg is that, Splintercell? Mine was a Stetson St. Regis with a light grey color, until I changed it into a...
At the moment, my favorite look is a mid-grey, two-button suit with somewhat narrow lapels and a textured, although not exactly "flecked" fabric. Sort of like some of the suits Sean Connery wore as James Bond.

My current suit resembles...
I bought the ties below on eBay.
Advertised as 1950s/60s:
1950s tie:
Undated wool red knit tie:
By the way, does anyone know where to buy a tie "rod" (preferably online), so that I could efficiently iron out wrinkles? I think Widebrim mentioned that thing a few pages back. It's...
I try to avoid wearing my pale grey hat with earth-toned clothes, unless it is a tan raincoat or sports jacket that I think it works well with. It seems a tan fedora is very versatile though, and I would even wear it with my mid-grey suit.
Regarding Stetson, I don't think Nostalgia was even a very good name for the hat. It brings to mind a romanticization of the past too much to make the hat seem contemporary and current. Could it possibly have been the name that put off some people from buying it? Somehow, Akubra manages to do...
I'm a '50s and '60s fan, myself. The clothes, music, movies, television, and the cars interest me. I think in earlier threads, others agreed to your point here, that the 1950s and early '60s still had quite a bit in common with the '30s and '40s, especially culturally for many people in the...
No picture taken today, but in the morning I put together a light blue oxford shirt, dark grey chinos, and a wool '50s/'60s narrow black tie which was U.S. Navy issued, and Service Shoes Type II (U.S. WWII reproduction boots from EMC Militaria). Over that, I put on a single-breasted raincoat...
Maybe not a creative choice, but I would say Humphrey Bogart. I have seen a few of the films he was in, and he was great during every performance. Bogart's one of my favorite actors. Other possible candidates include John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and James Cagney, also great actors.
I really liked Mafia II (haven't played it in almost a year, admittedly), but I was under the impression the timespan would be between 1945 to 1957. I read that somewhere, but I have no idea why they cut half that span off. Maybe the prison sentence could have been extended to have Vito released...
I agree, For Your Eyes Only was one of the best Roger Moore films. Bond was more serious in that one, and even kicked a man off a cliff. I actually like the score though. The track titled "Runaway" that plays during the ski chase is my favorite in the movie, although I know how dated it is.
I've ordered a couple of ties off of eBay that look good to me.
2 1/2" narrow silver tie with pattern.
2 1/2" tan knit tie.
I honestly can't accurately date these, but for the first one, it is supposed to be 1950s vintage. Does that hold true? Both of these ties are what I would think of...
Hoagy Carmichael doesn't look like Daniel Craig (and James Bond is supposed to look like Carmichael), yet I find that Ian Fleming's sketch somewhat resembles Craig. Maybe it's the eyes and facial expression.
Was James Bond really not taken seriously in the '90s? I thought Pierce Brosnan did...
