    Vintage Bathing Suits

There are some recent entries on Sew Retro http://sewretro.blogspot.com/ of ladies' homemade bathing suits. The last one was on June 14 and she used crimplene.

Catherine Middleton - Duchess of Cambridge - 40's inspired hat

Neither one of my grandparents ever wore shoes or clothes that were too tight as far as I know. In fact, my mother and grandmother always hammered into me the importance of well fitting shoes for your health. To this day I can't buy used or vintage shoes, just can't stand the thought. Also...

Catherine Middleton - Duchess of Cambridge - 40's inspired hat

I think we tend to forget that humans generally are getting taller and bigger, apparently due to nutrition and hormones in modern food. Most of the 40's coats etc I have seen had really short sleeves, and I'm not even tall. My grandma's feet were small as well, but I don't remember her as...

    Interesting article on disposable fashion

Another interesting article in today's Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/jun/12/to-die-for-lucy-siegle-review By now, most casually informed shoppers know that cheap fashion is something none of us can afford. We're aware that the nimble needlework of children has been found in...

    Forbidden items in my home...

We've stopped allowing shoes for visits from the in-laws mainly. My father-in-law insists on putting his feet up when sat on our couch, and refused to take his muddy shoes off our light coloured footstool. The thing got ruined anyway, but we've since asked them to bring slippers and despite his...

    Trashy Diva

I've handwashed mine in lukewarm water and it came out fine.

Catherine Middleton - Duchess of Cambridge - 40's inspired hat

I think the real problem is women being criticised about their weight no matter whether they are thin or bigger. No matter what people in the public eye do, there's always someone complaining, calling them chubby or anorexic or not like "real women", and it's such a shame. Her mom and sister...

    From mother to daughter

Beautiful kimonos! In my culture, it is usually gold jewellery You receive a lot on your wedding day, and it is kept in a bank safe in case you ever need money. I didn't get much, because I didn't like it back then and our family gave us money. I did get my grandmother's jewellery, mostly amber...

    Show Us Your Purchases!

Ooh, how was it? They also sell on Ebay and I am always drooling over their dresses. Miss G, you are a virtual walking garden! Lovely print.

I think there's certain characteristics one has to look out for, and triggers (ie. hounds are triggered by sight and see a rabbit and are gone), so it's probably possible that there is a greater percentage of certain breeds that misbehave because they are mishandled. People just seem to think a...

What evidence is there for this, if you don't mind me asking? There are several breeds banned in Germany (not sure about the UK), but I know that it has nothing to do with anyone proving that they are more aggressive than other breeds. I haven't seen a single study which was able to support...

Don't text during a movie at the Alamo, or else...

^That's a bit out of order. Asking the guy to leave the lecture would have brought his point across without destroying someone's property.

^Those rules aren't ever really enforced these days anyway. Every time you see pictures form the big races, there are some younger women with shorter skirts or showing their entire back etc. When my husband gets an invitation for a Navy Ball, it gives clear dress code instructions for both...

Just have to comment: there are no dog breeds that are "inherently dangerous". That is a complete myth. There are dog breeds that are usually kept by dangerous (or idiotic) people and then become dangerous, but it's not inherent in the breed. There are different breeds for different activities...

Don't text during a movie at the Alamo, or else...

I've dropped my phone in tea and beer before. Both times I needed a new phone. :) I think making public spaces like concert venues etc non-cell friendly sounds like a great idea! It never occurred to me before that they do this on purpose, but that would eliminate the problem.

Lovely Ladies of the Fedora Lounge

Ditto to everything Puzzicato said! I think it would be quite rare to meet someone not only with similar interests, but someone you also click with (and the two don't necessarily go hand in hand) so early on in life. I didn't meet my husband until I was 29, but then it was like a lightbulb...

:D That is too funny! I had a roomate once, who, whilst I was away for the summer, became engaged with some Jehovah's witnesses and invited them in every day for a while. When I came back they expected to have long talks with me as well, but I went into my room and played heavy metal very loudly...

I agree, I think most people who have really loud phone conversations wherever they are want them to be overheard to prove what an exciting and interesting life they lead. They also want them to be instant, so wouldn't want to queue up in front of a booth in case there was someone else in there.

    Bio oil

^It wasn't for me. I burned my arm on a kettle (don't ask), and after using it for three weeks or so the scar had completely disappeared. Depends how bad the scarring is I think.
