Er, Bart.... I think CRH was joking here :p (that TonyB was the maker of the other hat in the picture (as in the helmet!)
Always looks to me as if CRH has a humorous twinkle in his eye in his photos, anyway.....

Naptha cleaning in the UK?
Thanks Cookie - don't know if you were joking or not, but it does look as if no one in the UK offers this service at all, so Optimo might in fact be the nearest![huh]
Sending the hat to the US and back would cost more than the hat is worth.....
Leaving...
Naptha cleaning in the UK?
Does anyone out there know of a place in the UK where I could get a hat 'naptha' cleaned?
Both Bates and Locks in London say that all they offer cleaning-wise is 'steam and brushing'.
I don't especially fancy tackling this myself, for lots of reasons...
Well, thanks to Daizawaguy's latest posting (of his stingy with the purple-ish ribbon), I'm now starting to work my way through all the pages on this thread, with the growing anticipation of an order being placed as soon as my hat-buying budget allows..... The more I see, the more I like...
Hey, that is an amazing colour ribbon on that one - makes me want one baaaad!
Love the colour detail on the centre of the bow too.....
Great stuff :eusa_clap

And the rest of the hat looks great too, by the way!!
So, what do you think?
Well, I for one think that you have outdone even your usual high standards on this one, Torpedo. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap etc etc etc.
Wish I could carry off this sort of look as well as you do :( .....

Are you sure it doesn't actually say 'MONSTER' (rather than 'Muster') on that label? As in Frankenstein, or 'Scary.....'??
Still, it's more aesthetically pleasing than some of the more "fashion aware" abominations you see (some of) the youth of today sporting in the...
Similar here in the UK, with S&H included in the basic valuation. Plus Royal Mail parcel service add a fee of c. $14~ for handling and clearing the item through customs. It all adds up to an extra chunk on any hat bought from the US, for instance. On the Mallory that I got recently, S&H was...
Hey, that is one smart looking hat! What is it, by the way? Love the colour combination - beautiful shade of yellow(?) for the ribbon, and nice proportions and bash. And is that a welted edge of some sort?
NICE! :) :) :)

I often, in the cooler months at least, wear trousers and a waistcoat (as in two parts of a three piece suit), but with an overcoat rather than the suit jacket. I just like the look of it that way, and often find that I want the weather protection of the overcoat (in this wonderful Scottish...
Nice one, NB13. What's the colour called? And does the ribbon actually have that pink-ish shade that I see in your pics, or is it just the light?
Anyway, VERY NICE!!

HPGene: It feels good to be able to give back a tiny bit of enjoyment after all the great hats of yours that I've enjoyed seeing over the last few months :) .
Don't know anything about its age, other than it's a pre-'46 (pre Stetson), I believe.....

The original sweatband was attached only along about 1/3 of its length, and Graham at Optimo reckoned it was dry-rotted and would just keep coming away again. The size is still the original Mallory 7 1/4.
Yep, the colour in the 'not on head' pics is pretty accurate, although as always it...
Thanks Sue. I could sure use a bit of that Mallory 'Youthful Smartness', so am really enjoying this hat. And also thanks Aureliano - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Graham manages to find the old sweatband. The hat is obviously perfectly good, and very functional, with its new Optimo...
My new Mallory 'Eight Fifty'.
This one came from Chiliarches in Chicago (thanks again, John) via Optimo for a quick new sweatband and clean/block (unfortunately, the original sweatband, which I'd asked to be saved, seems to have vanished in the work at Optimo :rage: ).
Size 7 1/4, incredible...
