Straw Beater
Man, I really need to work on my picture taking.
Anyway, I was wearing my summer straw beater today. Origin unknown... just an average hat that I got cheap, reshaped, stretched, and added the new pug to. It's light and comfortable. The greeter at Costco asked me to please...
Three Recent Wins
I think I found the secret to winning auctions: Put in a bid you don't think will win (or secretly hope won't win) and then forget about it. I did just that three time recently, and won each time.
First was the very large Borso, which I think was already mentioned in this...
Nice
Thanks for the link. I was sorely tempted by a Panizza in camel. Couldn't quite pull the trigger, though. It looks fantastic, but would require a little stretching. Also, with shipping, the one I want was pushing $300.

Tough Choices
Took some time to get it down to ten. Keep in mind that I'm a melon head, so getting these involved some hard fought battles!
Borsalino Alessandria
Whippet (1950)
Brooks Brothers (I can only show this if we all agree no one will tell MattJH that I added side dents...
Another
Okay... I am a collector. It is just hard wired in me somehow. I wish it weren't but it is. Before hats, it was original comic and illustration art.
Hats are cheaper.
I call that growth.

Hmm...
Don't know if I have many, but I'll try and see what comes out.
I don't wear or get ballcaps, really. Who wants to sunscreen their ears?
I spend more time pairing hat to outfit than I ever dreamed I would.
I think the "high" prices we see for remarkable hats on ebay aren't high...
I don't think it needs any steam, but you're right... I probably could have done as well or better here. It's always a coin toss for me, as I've had items disappear in the classifieds. I just go on instinct as far as where to find the best market for each sale. It's the same with setting a...
Yeah!
Ha... tell me about it. I know I was hoping for more. Thought I listed it pretty well, too. Maybe the age killed it, but it's a good hat.
Oh well... off it goes.

Cedar Planks
I've been buying the cedar planks Costco sells for grilling. You know they don't have anything toxic in them. I saw them up on the band saw and throw a few pieces in each box. The freshly cut wood smells great, too.

A couple of years ago, when I started buying hats with a passion (it's subsided now... mostly), one of my first purchases was a Resistol stingy from the '60s. The sweat band was pretty shot, and it was too small for me. The felt, though, was really nice. It was that soft "Kitten Finish". I...
Sweats
Hat Supply is the only source I know of, really. I got some better ones once, from a source we're not allowed to discuss here, but that was a friendly deal... nothing you could duplicate, as far as I know.
It is frustrating. The good news is that, while the ones from Hat Supply...
I've been looking for a cheap, decent, tiny hat to strip and rebuild into a much larger size. I think this one has the brim needed to make it possible.

Tiny Twenty
I snagged this Dobbs Twenty for ten bucks (twenty shipped). I have some destructive plans for this little hat. Hope the felt is nice enough to justify the effort.

Restored Resistol
Last year I won a lot of three old, beat up Resistol fedoras. All dated from the late '40s, I'm guessing. I've been slowly working on them, and recently finished off the most extensive renovation.
This hat was really shot, but the felt was intact and had a nice bound...
